The real reason why the Russian Federation, which today is at least arguably a free market democracy, is so hated and feared by so-called western governments, media, and the self-styled "elite" class is because it was unwilling to subserviate itself to the US and western European interests and dictates. Russia's unwavering insistance on remaining an independent power pole, outside of NATO, the EU, and the western globalist banking structure, have made it persona non-grata to the western or "Davos" elite and in particular the US media and bureaucratic foreign policy establishment.
We do not have fundamental economic or ideological disagreements with Russia anywhere near the fundamental differences between the free world and Soviet Union. The differences today are minor, that is Russia's insistence on remaining an independent power in the world and to a lesser extent a few minor social issues such as gay parades or teaching gay sex to elementary students. That latter point would not be enough to cause the western establishment to treat Russia as the "greatest threat" to their power when they are happy to ally with much more socially conservative countries like Saudi Arabia or the Gulf States.
Russia has made the cardinal sin of wanting to remain an independent power in a multi-polar world based on national sovereignty and cooperative self-interests rather than a western elite led New World Order and banking system.
