Why is this story doing badly?

I wrote a story, and frankly, I was pleased with my efforts, however, though it was in the top 50 at one point, suddenly it is receiving lots of negative voting, can someone read my story and indicate why this is? http://english.literotica.com/stories/showstory.php?id=181650
I am currently writing the next chapter as well, so I want to make sure I am going on the right track.

Have you linked. I'll read and send feedback as soon as I can. Sounds like you are being "trolled" though.

Trolled?

Some people will bomb you for writing a story in a theme they disagree with. Interracial could perhaps upset some people. Ask English Lady about a comment she had over her 'Shanglan' story.
I had a spate of it it too. I must have offended someone somewhere.
Keep up with the writing and enjoy. :D

GirlMidnight,

I read your story, and found it thoroughly enjoyable... You might look within the thread 'Story Ratings,' for other perspectives on what sometimes happens to quality stories here. Your superior talents as a writer are obvious. Continue to write for those of us who are appreciative.

I R.V.C.ed your story. My suggestions are in the public comment for your story. As for your rating going down, it was because of some 'Trolls'.

Msboy: Thank you, it was constructive criticism that you posted. One reason it appears to stop suddenly is because a sentence or two got lopped off somehow in the posting process. But yeah, I do need an editor. I used them for 'The Bitch' story, but I lost their names, and I can be pretty impatient so with the O+T story I just decided to submit it.

geronimo: I did think about that, but then I wondered why other interracial stories flourished?

Thank you everyone who responded and voted, the encouragement helped. I am going to look into the trolling thread- if that is what has happened with my submission.

That's a curious point... I'd be interested to know what per centage of Interracial, Lesbian, Gay, etc., stories are able to achieve and maintain a 4.5 average or higher. It's possible (maybe even likely) that it's more difficult to write a story within those categories which are acceptable to the average reader. I scanned the Interracial Love category to see the density of stories with an 'H' (for Hot) designation. It does appear that there aren't as many 'H' Interracial Love stories. On the other hand, there continues to be Interracial Love category stories which do maintain 4.75 and higher averages. Maybe it's just more difficult to find that narrow niche of acceptable material in this genre. Comment, anyone??

Stories written by black men about black men having interracial sex tend to do well. As to do stories written by black women about black women having interracial sex. Regardless of the writing.

However stories where the writer may be a white woman writing about a black man having sex will do less well, even if the writing is excellent (I have read some really good stories written by white female authors who do not get the votes they deserve.) White men writing about sex with black women will do a bit better than white women writing about sex with black men, but they still do not achieve the same votes as a black woman with the same writing skill would, writing about wm/bf sex. Stories with Asian women written by white men, however, can do very well. Stories with other themes, and by say, asian or latin writers are in the minority.

My story may have committed the 'white womans' sin of writing not only about black masculinity, predominantly from that view point when I am a woman (though I am black/mixed raced), but also by adding themes of s&m both in a sexual and relational sense, as well as including other interracial situations (asian, white and black females being included), and possibly the added theme of bisexuality. Also, 'Tyrone' was not a 'hypermasculanised' black male character, he was clearly unhappy with his life and sought to remedy this unhappiness through sex. The relationships in the story are largely unhappy and tense. Some readers may have found his anger, his thoughts and his disenfranchisement uncomfortable.

the story did a great job of explianing the characters....I just thought there were too many scenes. I did like all the different relationships...

Hi,

Read your story, and it seemed something was slowing it down. It's not a bad story, but it seemed to move to slowly, the plot itself was ok, but maybe the descriptions... and those lines. Those lines were like hitting a speed bump every few minutes. At times, I couldn't tell who was who. Tyrone was doing his neighbor and Ophelia? I dunno. But it didn't make me curious enough to go on.

There probably were too many scenes for one 'story' it probably would have been better served being broken into chunks.

However, I am still happy with this story, I actually feel that more effort was placed into this story than 'the bitch' which was a straight vanilla-ish sex story that got a 'hot' rating which I feel the O&T deserved more. I simply feel that the story, despite its flaws (next time I will use an editor), is still a strong story.

Also, being a long term lit browser and being a successful writer of non-erotic materials- some of which has been published, I know that it simply isn't a story that merits for example the recent vote which was a 1 or 2 at most (and the anonymous 'pretty lame' comment.) Even if it isn't a hottie, the voting is pretty weird- I seem to either get 4 or 5's or 1's. In many ways, the voting would be less offensive if it wasn't do disparate and bipolar- even if I still had a low score count.

As an experiment, I am currently writing similar fiction with white characters and will post this under a different name, and will continue to post and work on interracial fiction and see how it all works out. If it is really just my writing and nothing to do with trolling, then I should expect to find similar voting patterns with the alias. If it is because the type of interracial writing I do is prone to trolling, then the 'white' alias will score better marks.

I will pop the results on this thread.

No, that's not what I said. If you're going to refer to me, I would hope you would at least repeat what I said, not bring me into some discussion I wasn't involved in to begin with, dipshit.

BTW - I'm female....can you understand at least that much?

What I said to you specifically was that it was arrogant of you to assume that you'd keep a perfect score on your story, and it is.

Grow up.

LOL, I'm in love with you!

I agree with Cloudy- it is nearly untenable to maintain a perfect voting score as it assumes that everyone has the same criteria for judging stories, when that is simply not possible, especially when you regard the range of both sexual and literary tastes that browse the Lit.

A 'troll' is someone who votes a story down because of previous prejudices regarding the theme/author or if they are that sort of random fuckertywanktroll. Also, in order to determine if your story is being 'trolled' then there should be a disparate award of votes- for example- if a writer consistently get's a 3, 4 or 5 but is dragged down by a 1 or 2, or a spate of them. Also, if you are truly being trolled, as I was/probably still am, the regular anti-trolling clean up that takes place on the story index will clean up your score to make it closer to what it actually reflects based on non-troll votes.

A 4.75 is still an extremely good score, unless you are certain that the voting is malicious, you should acknowledge and be happy with this. Further votes for your story will determine whether this score reflects wider opinion.

Thanks for your input on this. It gave me a clearer understanding of how the system works. And I particularlly liked the fact, that you got your point
across without a single naughty word.

Again, thanks. :)
