Why is there so much gun violence in Chicago if it is next to impossible to legally purchase and own firearm in that city?

It just seems that the more restrictive the gun laws are, the higher the crime rates.

There is a lot of violence because Chicago is, historically, a violent place, with corrupt cops and politicians. Add to that the fact that outlawing guns is pointless, because criminals will break those laws. That's what criminals do - they break laws. If thugs are going to be robbing and killing and dealing dope, they certainly won't shy away from a little thing like illegal possession of a firearm.
