Why Is One Genre Accepted More Than Another. . .

A friend pointed something out to me and I found it an interesting thought.

I wrote a Loving Wife story and knew it would be trolled. I wasn't surprised or offended because I went in knowing it would be bashed.

My topic for discussion (if anyone would like to discuss it). . .is:

Why is Incest acceptable but not Loving Wives?

Incest is illegal and taboo, yet I know my Incest stories have never gotten the bashing of the Loving Wife category ones. Why do you think that is? I know all categories have trolls, or many trolls target specific writers.

Thanks for thinking of discussing this with me. :)

Because the Loving Wives trolls only troll LW, probably...

And because, for crissakes, LW has shoehorned two different scenarios into one category, and they are polar opposites.

This has been a topic of conversation here since I arrived, certainly- and one that Laurel and Manu don't seem to want to do anything about. I can imagine the sheer amountof work it would require to separate the two groups of stories, but it would be nice if we could at least start submitting stories to one or the other category, huh?

Maybe more readers have been cheated on than have suffered incest? It seems that a lot of the trolls who go after LW stories take it very personally. Of course, why people read things on topics they know offend them is beyond me.

It would be great to submit to a "Loving" versus a "Cheating." It would be a big tasks.

Perhaps, it is more likely ( I would think ) to suffer from a cheating lover/spouse than have an incestuous relationship. They do take it personally, but speak of morals and such, yet the Incest to me would garner more talk of morals than a LW story.

If it were MY site ;) I'd just start the new category, and let active writers notify the administration as to which stories need to be moved.
I'd pretty much ignore the older stories, or let readers tag 'em- or maybe not...

I have always thought the trolls in LW's are the same trolls in Forced/Reluctance. They are made up of a bunch of losers who's wives cheated on them and they want to get even

That would be a good idea. :D

I don't know if they are the same, but they sure feel about the same as far as the comments seem to reflect.

I've got a few Non/Rel. not many. The votes low, the comments 50/50.

Not so. If that was the case, then Erotic Horror (especially the ever popular tentacle stories) would generate the most outrage (snuff and all). To me, Incest stories are a joke. The premises are usually ridiculous ("I looked at my sister/mother/grandmother and realized I had to have her...Afterwards, we were both so happy..."), so you don't take them personally. An LW story that tells about a woman who cheats on her husband (and kids) is much easier to take personally. Since it's more personal, you're more likely to get upset by it (much like people who are infuriated by NC stories, after their lives have been touched by molestation/rape). It's just a story, but it's hard to tell that to the reader. Besides, if we do our job right as authors, we will upset some people. It's a hell of a lot better than being ignored. ;)

I don't see Erotic Horror being trolled because of the less likelihood of being taken "to heart". It is obvious that it can't/rarely be taken personally, unless one has been abducted by Aliens. :D

I wouldn't take the trolling seriously.
People are just shallow and can't handle a good story when they see one.

LW stories are trolled by people (presumably 99.9% men) who are full of self-loathing and desire humiliation, and yet feel guilty about it. I believe that most of the bashing is written by men whose wives cheated on them, for whatever reason, and they are horrified, disturbed and extremely titillated and turned on by reading stories on cheating wives. They hate it that they are turned on by the thought of being cuckholded, but it gets them so worked up and horny that they can't get erections otherwise. They are obviously incomplete people and severely damaged to be issuing death threats to virtually anonymous authors AND fictional characters. They live in a deeper and more profound fantasy world than even the best erotic authors.

I believe some of these people may truly be crazy enough to carry out some of their ridiculous threats. They are some rambling fucking morons, but there is something deeply disturbed in many of them. If I ever met one of them personally I'd fuck his wife out of spite, but it would probably just turn him on and ruin my fun.

That's why I don't read in Erotic Horror. The probes were terrifying on the mother ship.

That made me laugh!

I have just submitted a story about that rarest of creatures on Lit - a wife who loves her husband! Although the story centres around marital problems, there is no cheating apart from a slight temptaion for the husband. I could have submitted it to LW, but i chose not to. I made that decision because i simply couldn;t be doing with all the vitriol and hate mail that category attracts. Cowardly perhaps but it doesn;t do much for me to open mails telling me to go kill myself, WHORE!

LW trolls are indeed disturbed individuals who would benefit from intense pyschoanalysis and electro shock therapy.

I'm thinking that certain people are just lonely and looking for something, anything to attach to and get attention from...even if the vibe given is negative, illogical and a non-linear one, at base level they're still thinking of you, which is what they want you to leave with when reading their rumbles.

Plus, you know the ol' chestnut...those who can't create, complain!

Shouldn't that be under "Erotic Sci-Fi" instead of Horror?

I mean, ETs need not be horrible looking, after all, yes? Unless we're talking H.R. Giger kinda stuff!

My theory is that LW is a trap..... once all the trolls are in there at one time, the jaws will close and *poof* no more trolls......

It's more like wishful thinking but ya never know.....

Oh, I've learned not to take it seriously. :)

This is the first one where the wife knowingly cheated on her husband, making a conscious decision to do so. I have one where the woman was/wasn't consentual, so it boarded on Loving Wife for some readers and Non/Rel. or Nonerotic for others. My other Loving Wife stories are "LOVING" wives. . .who fulfill their husband's desires.

I do think some of that too. People feel the need to be attached to something. I think that is why my lastest "kill yourself" anon commenter, left me their email address. I won't write them. I have no desire to give them that attachment to me.

Wrong example. :D But yes, Ecotic Horror doesn't have to be alienish.

Why not post the other sort of "Loving" wives story to Romance or Erotic Couplings? Although the drawback is that they don't tend to get as many reads since they are a "boring" category.

The other story is NOT Erotic Couplings or Romance. It bordered on Non/Rel. because the wife was drunk and depressed. I put it in loving wife, because she was married, she did cheat on her husband, though her mind and heart weren't in it. She was distracted. . . The husband is not in the story, but is reflected by the wedding ring she studies at the end of the story.

Fucked Up Circumstance

It isn't in Non-Erotic, because there is sex. To me Non-erotic is for stories with no sex.
