Why is it that...

Having been an all-too serious denizen of the talk forum, I have to admit that I'm enjoying the General Board lately. Though I'm avoiding the political threads and feel totally geeky around the in-crowd.

My biggest problem with General Board is it moves at such a quick pace, it demands too much time and attention. I can't keep up.

That's one of my issues with the GB. The other being the surplus of trolls that are over there. I don't always have the patience for them. I mean, the occasional troll is fun. Having lots of them around routinely is just annoying.

once again, you serious people have kept me from my serious work and I am now seriously behind schedule. Sersiously.

Why are the BDSM Forums so much better than the GB?

Because I am here.

That's why. :D

i was trying to explain this today to my husband, who has less-than-zero interest in reading what anyone thinks about anything on such a thing a the internets, and he just did not get it.

"It's a sex forum - you talk about sex, right?"

"Yeah, but other stuff too, interesting stuff."

"Why? It's a sex forum."

me - banging my head against the table.

Yeah, we've had that conversation before, too. Me and K that is.

the kinky wierdos (us,I guess) make for a much better forum than say, the general board? I mean, we are the freaks, right? The people who want "unnatural" things and should be ashamed of ourselves ;-) yet the discussions i've read here rarely devolve into juvenile name calling and other inane crap...instead discussion are pretty damn respectful and, IMO, intelligent.

Are the freaks really the smart ones? LOL

I've been thinking about this thread the last couple of days. I'm not a huge wikipedia fan, but I like this summation (forgive the verbosity):

"Dominance and submission, and the inner conflict and surrender connected with these are enduring themes in human culture and civilization. In human sexuality this has broadened to include mutual exploration of roles, emotions and activities which would be difficult or impossible to do without a willing partner taking an opposing role.

While D/s can deal with representations of brutality and cruelty, and the emotional responses to them, adherents are quick to point out that D/s is not about acts of brutality and cruelty. It is a consensual power exchange between the two partners and need not involve any brutality (such as corporal punishment) or cruelty (verbal or emotional abuse) at all.

It is primarily based upon trust and communication between the partners. It is also based on a deep ethos of mutual respect in which exploration of the emotions brought up by power exchange can occur in a safe, sane and consensual manner.

D/s may be ritualised or freeform. It is usually a negotiated lifestyle, with people discussing their wishes, limits and needs in order to find commonality. A D/s relationship may be sexual or non-sexual, long or short term, and intimate or anonymous. Most adherents search for the essential intensity, trust and intimacy that are required to make any deep relationship possible."

What are the dominant themes :) in this excerpt? Exploration and communication. Those are good qualities in a sex partner, and in a conversational partner. And in a forum, as well.
