One explanation is that in WWI Paris, fellatio was codenamed "Blue Sex" or a "Blue Job" by the prostitutes.

American soldiers corrupted the French word for Blue into "blow."

I agree that the name just doesn't do justice to the act. Why isn't it called something like 'incredible', or 'wildly incredible', or even 'wildly fucking incredible'?

I think I like 'fellatio' better than 'blow job'. It sounds kind of exotic, like their is some hot foreign babe involved. It seems like 'blow job' should step over and let some name that better describes the experience and sensations that flood us when were getting this special gift. I suspect that as Weird Harold noted, 'blow job' is a word invented by women.

I may be wrong, but I thought "blow-job" came from Victorian England.

Originally in that prudish society called a "below-job" (for obvious reasons!), it gradually changed over time to the modern version.
