Why have the Palestinians stopped their attacks?

Anyone remember the heated discussion over the Palestinians' continuous acts of terrorism about a month ago? Several people said the Israelis were to blame, which I still think is ridiculous. But I also remember saying the Palestinians would stop their terrorist attacks on women and children when Arafat wanted it to stop. Fast forward to the present, and lo and behold, he did and they stopped immediately.

Arafat is a terrorist, period. A leader of murderers not that much different from the Taliban in their subhuman behavior. Isn't this proof enough who the true instigator of violence is between Israel and the Palestinians? How many lives were lost - on both sides - so Arafat could keep his "cause" alive?

The sad truth is if we take his ass out, the Palestinians will go on more murdering rampages. Too bad we didn't put the squeeze on this fuckhead 30 years ago.

The Shabra an Shattila masssacres (Palestinian Refugee Camps in Lebanon) were ordered by no one else than Ariel Sharon. I am not saying now that the Palestinians havent done horrible things against humanity either and I am neither pro-Israeli nor pro-Palestinian but you should be clear about a few things:

1) The Gaza Strip is the world's biggest prison and the world's most aride region where the Palestinians living there are not even allowed to dig for water

2) Most Palestinians over the age of 15 are not allowed to leave the Gaza Strip or the West Bank and even when they can get hold of a passage paper they are the mercy of the Israeli border guards to be able to cross over to Israel to work there

3) 70% of the people in the Gaza Strip havent been out there since they were internated

4) Palestinians in Lebanon, for example, are not granted the right of citizenship nor do they get an offical refugee status therefore making it impossible to find work since they are also banned from 15 "guilds"


I am by no means defending the Palestinians but I dont want to put Arafat as the "main" terrorist either. It is true that Arafat has done A LOT of things wrong... so has Sharon. Sharon is responsible for the Shabra and Shattila massacres, Arafat hasnt held election in the Palestinian territories since 1996, therefore acting out of a dictator role.

My guess why the attacks stopped recently is that they are not as publicity worthy at the moment. The Palestinians have nothing to fight with (apart from Arafat's Fatah) than stones and other such objects. Like the Intifada a few years ago showed, Arafat is vulnerable. He has to make concessions otherwise his own people start rebelling against him.

It slowed them down a little bit, but with 50 tons of munitions, including 62 long-range Katyusha rockets, anti-tank missiles, 2.5 tons of explosives, small arms and mines intercepted, I don't think the Palestinians were planning a 4th of July party. These guys really need a homeland. Then if they act up, Israel could nuke them.

The Israeli government treats the Palestinians worse than the US government treated native Americans 100 years ago. Do you expect these people not to respond?
