Starblayde said:He's got an English, umm.... ancestor...
He looks german (bad haircut), sounds canadian/german, and plays good football for a German Team and The English National team....
Like he was goning to choose to play for Canada?
Serves you right for taking Lennox from us during his twenties....
Rusedski + Hargreaves = Lewis...?
nearly fair....![]()

First off, Lewis is more Canadian than he is British.
But Hargreaves shouldn't have the choice. He was born in Canada, raised in Canada and should play for Canada.
Liontamr_77 said:BTW, You can keep Rusedski ..
Liontamr_77 said:If Canada gave a shit about the game, and had people that actually came out to support the nats, then maybe I'd be bitter about Owen not playing.
But until then, all the best to him.. He's the reason I am cheering for England much to my Scottish grandma's chagrin.
I will admit, Owen playing for Canada would have helped the program ten fold, but why help a program that no one else who is 100% canadian is willing to help?
BTW, You can keep Rusedski ..

He could have played for Canada 'cos he was born there.
He can and does play for England 'cos he has an English... umm mother/grandmother i think...
He could have played for Germany 'cos he'd lived there for so long.
So he chose the best team...![]()

That's horseshit. You don't support your country only when times are good. If he was half a man he'd play for his Country, good times or bad.
Before Steve Nash, did anyone care about Canadian basketball? No, but he didn't care he played for his country.

So long meaning what? He was born in Canada and lived here until he was well into his Teens.
Weevil said:
Fifa shouldn't allow rules like that. I've got an Irish Father. I'd never, ever play for any Country other than Canada. It's insulting.
It's why England won't get into the second round.
You've been officially cursed.
Starblayde said:
I sincerely doubt Hargreaves feels English. In any sense.
He proably feels more German than English.

Residency laws say that after living in a country for however0-many years (I think about three) you can represent that country
And that's a big load of hairy bollocks.

Nope, as the tie to the Swedes proves you guys are on the bus home after your three games. Hopefully it'll learn you not trip Soccer Canada.

Fuck. Off.

Go Argentina and Nigeria!
As If they need it.

I've been having conversations about these subjects for the last 3 weeks. With people who actually know what they're talking about.
I don't need to go into it with you too.

Wow, A tie, you say? With the soccer powerhouse that is Sweden?

Starblayde,
Don't waste your time with this guy... He obviously has no clue about the game when he has no clue about who the good teams really are.

Steve Nash I believe had no choice but to play for Canada! He was born and raised in Canada..
Funny how you haven't mentioned Owen Nolan who was born in Belfast, Ireland... By your thought process, shouldn't he be playing with the Irish hockey team and not Team Canada?
At any rate, when Canadain fans can manage to outnumber Brazilian fans at a friendly in Edmonton unlike a few years ago.. Then I will understand why Canadians would feel jilted.

2) You're wrong about Nolan on a few counts. First and Foremost Belfast is in Northern Ireland. Not Ireland. He'd play for the UK, not Ireland. Or maybe Northern Ireland has its own Hockey Team beats me. Anyways, the big difference is that Nolan was raised in Canada. Nolan is about as Irish as I am.
You are also wrong about Nolan and Ireland. I agree, Belfast is in Northern Ireland..but there is NO such team as UK. N Ireland has it's own soccer team, as does England...however, in the Olympics it is Team Great Britain...a subtle and vast difference.
Anyway...why would anyone want to play soccer for Canada? Do they have a team?

Why was I wrong about Nolan? I said he'd play for the UK or Northern Ireland, depending on how they organize(For the record we were talking about Olympic Hockey so it would be team UK, wouldn't it?) I didn't know and I didn't say it definitely either way.
It's moot. Nolan was raised in Thorold, Ontario. He has no trace of an Irish accent which leads me to guess(I couldn't ascertain for sure) that he has lived in Canada since early childhood.
Canada has a team, not a good one, not even a well supported one(I take issue with many Canadians over this myself) but it is the only one Hargreaves has a legitimate claim to playing for.
