Why Ebola triggers massive right-wing hysteria

False equivalence. One is supported by thousands and thousands of pages of peer-reviewed scientific research. The other is supported by little more than paranoia and fear of the Other. I would also point out that HIV killed more people today than Ebola has in its last three outbreaks, and yet motherfuckers still don't wanna wear condoms.

Citation needed.

Though yes people still dont' want to wear condoms and the main reason you should is to prevent pregnancy not (in the western world) an outside chance of getting AIDS.

Are you calling LTR a plumper, tubby?

The JenBot was attempting to diss me, which prompted Vetty The Schmuck to get his dill pickle stiff and rush in for his complimentary blowjob from his new as-of-yet-still-on-retainer Koalabear stand-in.

Being that the JenBot blows every RWer on here on a daily basis, Vette better hope it killed all the campylobacter jejuni in its mouth with some Listerine first. Cuz you know, The Ebola® and shit.

Well, start with this. It just covers the complete Ebola history so far: http://www.infographicspedia.com/truth-about-ebola-outbreak-infographic/

Now, contrast that against the information that, according to WHO figures, HIV-related illnesses killed 1.4m people on the African continent in 2012 alone. If we divide that out by the day, my claims can still be extrapolated thus. Are we done now?

Don't get snarky, just because I don't take you at facevalue doesn't mean I'm calling you a liar or anything. Ask anybody, I ask for citations even when I WANT to believe what's being said.

I know Ebola is functionally harmless. Almost all the super bugs tend to be. Ebola has a bad habit of burning itself out. It turns out when you slaughter your host horrifically people tend to take fucking notice.

I was more curious about the AIDS. Given the state of medicine in Africa it's tragic how many people die of AIDS there each year but I live in America. Since you brought up condoms (which isn't the only way to spread it) I was curious.

jackass, can you type in English or.... just go back into the shit hole you came from

KO is a doctrinaire Marxist . . .

Never a Marxist; his system is pseudoscientific and historically determinist. (Any historically-determinist theory postdating the scientific and industrial revolutions has got to be wrong, because one thing driving historical change is technological progress, which depends in part on scientific progress, and both are inherently unpredictable -- we can predict they will continue so long as the economic incentives are present, but not the details of what will be discovered or invented. Could Marx have predicted the automobile or the radio? He might have speculated, but he had no way of knowing whether or not those technologies could ever be made to work.) IMO, the whole socialist movement (which already existed when Marx came along) would have been better off without the intellectual substructure Marx gave it.

Uh oh, meningitis is killing US citizens!

CLOSE THE BORDERS!

Fuck Obama!

Three times as many people died of pneumonia in my mid-sized hospital hospital this morning than all of those who have died of Ebola in this country in its entire history. I admit I have some concerns, but we really need to get this in perspective.

And yeah, regarding your link, I live in a college town. Meningitis seems to come around every few years, and when it does, it's all about tracking down contacts, just like Ebola.
