Why don't people vote?

If you are getting fifty votes from 8,000 views, you are doing twice as well as I do. Of course, the vote percentage varies with the genre, and incest is higher than most. Usually you will get a higher percentage on a story entered in a theme contest.

I like to think people read my stories and get all hot and bothered by the first thousand words or so, and start wanking or frigging, and get off before they finish. After that, they have lost interest in voting. :D

I agree I mean it is a sex site.

I awoke with a pounding in my head, the taste of Jack Daniels in my mouth and the smell of pussy on my face; pretty much a morning like any other these days

That opening line is to a story I put up a few weeks back that got less votes than the previous 6 or so. I guess it was a good hook and did go right into a torrid scene. So I guess they stopped there.

I suspect, as other people have said, that a lot of "views" aren't full reads, and they're often by people who don't have log-in names for the site. Additionally, I would also agree (and hope, really) that probably many readers don't really feel a pressing need to tell someone that a story they went to the effort of writing totally sucks.

I'm often curious about voting habits myself. I've only got one (long) series in one genre. It's a little surprising how some chapters have done in relation to others. There are way more votes on the last chapter I put out than any of the others, yet I would imagine that the vast majority of voters have probably read the whole thing. My suspicion is that many readers didn't vote on those earlier chapters because they either just weren't thinking about it or they didn't like them as much but didn't feel like dragging me down.

Funny how well at least in my case expectations on my end never match up with the readers. When i put something up and feel good and say "yeah nailed it!" yeah not so much. Then I put up something that because it's a set up chapter and a bit slow I figure whatever and it gets the votes. I have 25 chapters and in my opinion my 3 best written are all on the lower side of the number of votes.

I'm reading a John Le Carre novel I started several times and never could get into; but this time it seems like a much better read! It obviously aint the book, its me. So you gotta consider that humans are pretty dynamic and fluid critters.

The other thing that hasn't come up here (at least I didn't spot it reading through the thread) is that the number of views and therefore votes you get can often depend on what day your story posts.

Thursdays and Fridays are generally good days for your story to appear - Sundays can be a disaster. :)

I've found that the weather has as much to do with reads and votes as anything. Cold, cold and wet, or extremely hot and people read more.

Yeah well snowing like a bitch here in RI and I have a story that posted today so we'll see.
Another thing I see that effects it is the time. If a story goes up early am it does better than on the occasions they have posted me around noon.
