I'm new to the Literotica boards so you'll have to excuse me if this question has already been covered.

I'm curious as to why you write erotica. I've been reading the stories on Lit for over a year now and I've recently begun to write some of my own. I write them mainly to see if I can do it. I find it the ultimate challenge for myself since I mainly only write research papers.

So I'm quite interested to know why other people write erotica. Do you simply enjoy the challenge of writng erotic fiction, do you hope to make a career out of writing erotica or do you write for some other reason?

I have been writing stories since I was very young. I wrote my first "erotic" story in typing class when I was a freshman in high school. Neither my typing teacher nor the principal saw the artistic value of my story ;)

I took a couple of creative writing classes when I was in college going for my "Computer Information Systems" degree but after college I just kinda stopped writing for a while.

Then, I saw an ad in the paper for a part-time work at home job writing Christian Women's Devotionals. It got me writing again and I rediscovered my love. For a while I searched around on the web for a sight like Literotica but for Science Fiction / Fantasy. I never found one, but I did find Literotica.

At that time I knew I wasn't a great writer, but I'd made up my mind that I wanted to be. So I started writing erotic stories and posting them on Lit. I figured the best way to become a better writer was to write and see what people liked and didn't like. Then I found the Boards here at lit and discovered people who were willing to give me advice about writing. Now I'm taking more creative writing classes. I'm involved in my local writers group, and I write here at Lit.

I love writing. I have always loved writing, I just lost my way for a while. Someday I will be a "Published Author" until then, and even after that, I will try to get better at writing and I'll keep writing.

I don't know if you really wanted a life story or not, and I'm not sure I answered your question, but there is why I write erotica.

Because I love to write and Literotica is providing a service that I was unable to find anywhere else. I only hope that I have given enough back to Literotica for what it has given to me.

Writing Erotica

Interesting question. Thanks for posting it.

I can think of a dozen good reasons to write erotica. Topping the list is the benefit of developing the craft of writing. All the great ideas for plots, characters, and stories are pretty useless without the basic craft of writing. This forum is a terrific training ground.

I wish the story listings on author's profile pages included the date each was posted. That would make is easier to appreciate how some favorite authors developed over time. I look back on my own ten entries. There have been some steps back. But, overall, I think my trend has been to get better. My guess is, others probably feel the same way.

With the skills and confidence gained here, I plan to pursue paying markets for erotica and other genres.

I write Erotic stories because I enjoy the thought I might be giving pleasure to others, plus it's a challenge. I'm also convinced that my writing has improved since I started, which is a good thing in my opinion.

I very rarely (if ever) develope my characters, I tend to get straight to the nitty gritty. Not that I couldn't you understand, it's just that I'm not interested in writing a book, I'm just trying to give pleasure.

Why not?

"Why do you write erotica? "

It's fun, and with very explicit sex scenes becoming common in genres such as mainstream and romance, it's a way for me to improve my writing in that area. Besides, it's fun (or did I already say that?).

I write erotica to put my happiness, frustrations and future hopes on paper (or screen) laced with hot, steamy sex.

Seriously, I wanted to write romance novels (not for sale or anything), but because I'm a hopeless romantic, always daydreaming.

Also, here at Lit., there is a never a lack of opinion. The amount of great feedback to be received is one of the main reasons I started writing erotica when I stumbled onto the site.

One more thing, writing erotica was really made me explore my sexual boundaries and challanged me to think about issues that I thought were taboo. Yes, I've been corrupted!

If you want to soul-search; write erotica.:)

I started off writing erotica because it was a way to continue scenarios from RPGs after the "fade to black" moment. Found out I did a decent job of it, so it became a new hobby.

I had read romance novels and "dirty" books, and wanted to see if I could find a writing style somewhere in between, because the florid poetry was laughable and the vulgarities were a personal turn-off.

It's a challenge to see if I can write something that someone else will find hot. One guy, who despises me for what I do and what I am, used to ask me if I didn't think it was gross, the prospect of someone getting off on one of my stories. Not at all! There aren't enough orgasms in the world, and if I can help someone along to one with words alone, so much the better.

Well...

I don't only write erotica. I write all sorts of stuff. I really hope to someday be published (probably not going to happen) but for now it's just exciting to write whatever I feel. For some reason, during the last month, I had a strong urge to write erotic fiction, so I did! I just write what I feel, and erotica was a fun thing to do. I hope to write more, but if I don't, I'm not going to feel bad about it.

I started writing for a portuguese teacher I had a crush on. She taught me the pleasure of writing by loving what I wrote, and a 14 years old hormone crazed boy will do anything to please his crush. :p Of course, I didn't write erotica for her. Could never do it!

Now I write for myself, for the pleasure of lusting (yes, I do get horny writing) and getting it out of my mind. But just love when someone else says they liked my stories. And it improves my sex life, also! Could it be any better?

Even if it is just for the fun, it would be great if I'd get paid for my fun. It's the greatest complement, someone loving it so much they want to own a copy for their pleasure, and are even willing to pay to read you. And I surely could use the money.

But I doubt it will ever happen. Don't think I'm that good - still trying to find another portuguese author, to see if I have a clue of what I'm doing - and I write erotica, in Portugal. Not great market conditions. :(

I started writing erotica after reading stories on here about 3 years ago. I was an inexperienced student writer who had plans for writing novels, but never got past the first chapter. The first story I ever wrote is actually still on the site under a different name. I finished writing what started out as a personal story and realised that it was as good as some of the stuff on Literotica. So I submitted it to see whether it would get rejected and was pleasantly surprised when it got accepted and a 4.30 rating. I just enjoyed the ego-boost from the positive feedback so much that I carried on from there. Writing short erotic stories was a stepping stone to where I wanted to go, but I've found it's must satisfying than "serious" writing.

My life history Ladies and Gentlemen :D.

I write Pornography / Erotica (back to the old debate Ray :D ), because I enjoy reading the same material. Yes I would like to get some work published - one day. In fact I have found the germ of a plot began to develop almost accidentally in my latest short story. "Saturnalia" (Gay Male) if anyone wants to read it.

I am always trying to improve my writing ability, and testing out my style. How much historical info to include, how much to omit.
I get great feedback from people which hopefully helps me to write a little better each time. e.g. Story before latest "The Memorial" I was critisised for using modern words and phrases: the latest story some feedback said the language was too archaic.

Maybe I am getting near to the right balance!

I also get to meet some great people and work with some writers I respect on the chain-story. Watch out for one of the greatest Novels ever which will be appearing on Literotica later this summer!!!!!!!!!!

I read it first, and as I moved up the quality ladder, I realized that this was kind of neat. Never thought I'd do it, however, since I don't consider myself a short-story kind of writer. I have written poetry, and shall again, and I mastered the art of the "A" paper in college literature classes. But no plots for Quint, oh no.

That's when I got the idea for my first "how-to," since it was a subject that I felt very strongly about. So a general "what the hell" was said, my account was made, and the legacy began. After I wrote that first piece, I had a rush of creativity that gave me the entire plot for my nevergoing novella, so I started on it. Midway through Chapter 1, I had a great midnight mental monologue on my next "how-to," so off it went.

(Incidentally, "Creative Construction of Character" has the highest ratio of votes-per-views out of my three submissions, and the highest rating. Am I improving or was it just better material?)

That's how I got to be an author here, but why erotica? First, I enjoyed reading it lots. Second, "dirty talk" arouses me, and I considered myself quite good at cyber with hunny when necessity drove us apart. Therefore I had experience with sex scenes. Plot I'd have to write anywhere else, too, and they'd be even more emphasized without the sexual buffer. This was a natural place to go--anonymity, instant publication, huge readership, and even some feedback if you're lucky/terribly good/terribly bad. Not a bad deal.

I started writing dirty stories (aka erotica) when I was in high school. I wrote sexy stories that I wanted to read and jerk off to. And, ahem, I did.

Later on, when I got out of college, I used what skills I had to seduce girls I liked. There was this really pretty girl I made out with at a drunken party who asked me to write a story about her, and I wrote a story about her and me that was just totally hot, and she loved it, and it broke down whatever resistance she had to sleeping with me. We had sex. A lot. And it was good.

She shared the story with some friends, who asked me to write more stories, and I did, and when the first girl I wrote for dumped me to get back with her old boyfriend (fiancee, actually) two of the other girls liked my stories so much they had sex with me. And it was good.

I've written erotic scenes or notes for all the girls I've dated. And gotten very positive feedback, thank the Buddha. Then I discovered Literotica, and I wondered, hey, are my stories really any good? So I started writing, and getting published, and thought it was pretty freakin' cool. I wrote more and more, did the work, and started to learn how to write a good story. Not just a good erotic story, but a plain 'ol story. With, um, some fucking in it. Well, the site is for erotica, isn't it?

My writing has improved bigtime since I've been here. My stories have gotten much better, and more ambitious. My early stories aren't nearly as good as my later work, which is why I've been getting an itch to improve my earlier posts. That'll be work for the summer.

This is lots of fun. I've learned a lot. I've gotten lots of votes and interesting feedback. I've written stories I'm moderately proud of. It's all rather neat and keen.

My sex drive has always been extremely high...

and I took to pornography in my mid-teens like a duck to water. I jokingly called myself the youngest dirty old man in Soho (the red light district of London's WestEnd). I got to know all the dirty book shops and their owner/managers, who in turn when they learnt they could trust me would let me into the 'back rooms' where the darker material was kept.
I reached a high level of sex stimulation at quite an early age which held steady for a few years. Then I started to experiment and try out new things in real life with willing partners which took me along a few more stages.

I had always enjoyed writing and have been published in a number of non-erotic magazines but it wasn't until I was coming up to thirty that I wrote my first erotic/porn story. I felt at that age that I had read, watched and experienced everything I was ever likely to, or wanted to, and I felt too it was time to try my hand at creating hard-core. Rather than just being a passive, or not so passive :), reader.

My first attempts were pathetic, just a string of sexual scenes with barely a plot in sight. It didn't even satisfy me. But since that time I've honed my style and I enjoy writing erotica now because the experience I've had in life gives me a deeper insight into peoples' characters than I would be otherwise capable of knowing. Writng for the erotic genre takes just as much work as writing for any other. Something I hadn't realised way back, when I wrote my first teriible stories.

:)

Because I couldn't find what I wanted to read

My first contact with written erotica, apart from the short stories in Playboy, Penthouse and the like, was before I ever had an Internet connection. Being a programmer, I was always looking around at the various shareware sites advertising in the UK computer magazines. One or two of them listed various pieces of erotic fiction and I acquired a few. Almost without exception they were badly written, and I began to feel that maybe, just maybe, I could do better myself. At least I could write stories of the type I wanted to read. Some sort of plot and character interaction as well as hot, steamy sex.

So I tried. And hey, it wasn't too bad. After a while I had a few stories that pleased me and by then I had an Internet connection. One day in 2000 I discovered Literotica and after reading around for a few weeks decided to submit a story. Reception was generally favourable and I've submitted a few more since then, largely 'part-works', with a few stand-alone, under two author names. I'll have to write a few more before December ends, as I've joined in on Survivor!

I guess what I'm saying is that I write erotica/porn/smut because I enjoy reading it and I think I can write it.

My Stories

writing erotica...

I have been reading stories on literotica for about a year. After about six months of reading, I decided to give it a try myself. I love to write and have been since I could pick up a pen (or trying). I started off with romance, but when my bf introduced me to this site I wanted to see if I could do it and what people thought of my writing. I have written two stories under a different name (Sweet Shelby) and two others under this name, my first one under this name was just accepted a few hours ago. I have never really gotten any BAD feedback, so I am hopeful. And also determined to get published, one way or another..nothing will stand in my way;)

I usually write non-erotic stuff, and I'm really only just now trying my hand at erotica. It's hard. That's why I want to write it. It's a challenge to write it well. I've been here at Lit. for a year and a half now just reading (and posting to the GB) because there are so many good authors here. While I don't want to publish erotica professionally (at least that isn't my primary goal), I figure if I can learn to write decent erotica, then the tame stuff will be a snap. It's a lot more challenging than most people give it credit for. :)

why I write

I have always kept a diary of my adventures and it is an extention of that plus I want to hope that isnt being rude but i think that the reason most of us do it isnt it
mslinnet.

The sad thing is...

My written words don't arouse me, because they aren't novel. I know exactly what turns me on, which words in which sequence and what scenarios and what kind of characters and ALL that jazz. But if I write it, I go "ehh" and move on.

Okay, tangent time. Has anybody read the children's book "Sideways Stories from Wayside School"? (Please, I'm not crazy. Yet.) There is a chapter in there about a girl named Maurecia, who is that saddest of creatures, an ice cream addict. Eventually she got tired of all the flavors offered, and so the teacher (can't remember her name) came up with Maurecia-flavored ice cream. Everyone in the class tried it and thought it was fantastic, but Maurecia didn't taste a thing. Here comes the transition...wait for it...

I think that's how it is with me too.

So perhaps I write erotica because even though it's impotent with me, perhaps, just maybe, it's the best-tasting treat for somebody else.

Mmmm?

What a question? moost all my reasons for writing have been covered above.

But the main reason I write! Cause they told me at school I couldn't.
My first attempt is still scoring 4.26 and my latest 4.58.

I get really great feedback and most important and rewarding of all
YOU LOAD OF UGLEY BUGGERS who give support and comment to one another, thats the best:heart:

Oh and yes its fun. and I get payed when I'M writing:D
But the buggers don't know;)

Sideways Stories from Wayside School [/B]

Not read it but it dose sound interesting have you read "Fly fishing by J R HARTLY" well neither have I and I don’t intend to but i think after the advert on uk tv they had to write it

write for yourself not for others but if they like it all well and good I think you have the right outlook on this

interesting question.

i was given the site by a friend who told me my writing was good enough to be accepted and published on here. i gave it a go, was extremely nervous waiting to see. boy was it sure an ego boost to see it published. :)

now i continue to write, but i'm using the site (thank you :)) to learn how to improve my writing and to confirm my own opinions. i've discovered recently, i'm also moving a little from having pure eroticism as my base, so i may well branch out soon.

the feedback i've had from readers has all been positive. people have loved what i've written and want more. i admit, i enjoy writing erotica to give others pleasure :) authors have given me good criticism about what i have written in order to help me improve. so i reckon i'll keep writing.

but beware, i write for my own pleasure above all else. i'll not write when it becomes a chore or a struggle.

Here's why I write

In real life, sex tends to lead to unwanted pregnancy, or AIDS or some other disease. Plus I had very few chances to date after high school, with gals my age being married or otherwise attached. So in the summer of 2000, to cope with limited reality, I began to develop my unlimited imagination in the privacy of my own home. I began to write The Adventures of R.M. Roxinger, the series that is now available here at Lit, in the Novels & Novellas section. I created an alter ego, a fictional guy based loosely on myself who can easily attract women to him because in his realm there are no pregnancies or STDs. For him I created partners of various skin colors because I believe women of all races are beautiful. Shortly after I began writing the series, I discovered various sexuality sites, including Literotica. In January 2002, after over a year of just reading various stories here, I decided to submit my own. Writing erotic stories enables me to do sexual activities in my imagination that I could never do in real life.
