Why do you crush on the people you do?

I’ve seen threads with people listing their lit crushes, but what I’m more interested in is why you crush on that particular person. What do you mean when you say you have a crush on someone?

For me, it’s when I’m fascinated by their mind and their writing, but there is also that physical attraction there too. There are plenty of people here that I love to read and think are fab, but few I have what I would call a well rounded crush on. It’s totally different from the feelings I have from my fiancé. These crushes are more like an admiration and enchantment from afar. And they are fun!

I’m going to describe my current ones. It’s hardly surprising that there are key qualities they all have that I admire, but I’m attracted to their idiosyncrasies too. I’m not going to use names, but may PM the thread to the people involved. Perhaps.

When I first started noticing her, I thought she was attractive but dismissed her pretty much as 2-D fluffy and not someone that held any interest for me. But then as I began reading more of her posts I saw an intelligence, a strength, a warmth and a humour that was really attractive. She’s honest, kind and razor sharp. She can get a little fluffy for my liking, sure, but she is so much more than that.

Sexually, she is a very attractive woman, and I would probably turn my head were I to see her in the street. I’m don’t think our sexual flavours would be a great combination, but I can still admire from afar. Her pictures have a sensuality and a lightness of touch that is really refreshing.

He first caught my eye with his straight to the point, sometimes brutal, but always on the money posts. He wasn’t around too much, but was an entertaining read when he was. He’s here a lot more now and I’ve come to see more of the whole person. I’m attracted by his white hot intelligence and his humour. He’s sensitive and romantic without being wet, knows what he wants and is not afraid to go against societal norms and expectations.

His pictures are fun and charming. He’s a lot cuter than I first thought, and his personality shines through the images and is compelling. I eagerly await each new addition to his thread.

She is somewhat of a legend about the place, and understandably so. I’ve come to realise we think very much alike about a lot of things, but in other ways her outlook and lifestyle are a million miles away from mine. And that intrigues me. Her confidence and passion are awe-inspiring and mildly intimidating. She is disarmingly frank, and the knowledge and thoughts she shares are always fascinating. She is intelligent and opinionated, yet always warm and enthusiastic with those she communicates with.

Her pictures have a quality that seems unique to this site. She displays a complete confidence with her body and her sexuality. They are both completely self-absorbed yet totally dialogic. She has a fabulous sense of the aesthetic and a natural beauty and sexiness that makes her pictures a totally sensuous experience.

His writing is always thoughtful and often moves me, especially when he writes about his relationship with his partner. He is incredibly romantic, passionate and strong. He frequently makes me laugh out loud and usually leaves me with a wry smile on my face. He is at once the classic masculine male, yet quirky, sensitive and emotional. He is profoundly cool in a (seemingly?) totally uncontrived way.

He has an incredible eye for beauty. Whether his subject is himself or his surroundings, his images are always stylish and disarming – the work of a true aesthete. When someone sees the world and the beauty around them in such detail and with such passion, that is incredibly attractive. Physically, he is blessed with a body envied by men and desired by women (and a few men, I’m sure!) His self portraits are creative, erotic and never pornographic, yet are extremely powerful.
