But there was another story below it.

Are brothels really to blame for Nevada's woes?

Seems Harry Reid is calling for Nevada to close the brothels in order to attract a higher class of business.

What Reid didn't mention in his speech is that brothels contribute a decent penny to their counties in fees and taxes. Nye County's bordellos paid $150,000 in taxes last year, according to KTNV. Dennis Hof, owner of the Moonlite Bunny Ranch, says his four brothels in Lyon County employ 650 people and pay roughly $500,000 in fees to the county each year. In 2009, brothel owners lobbied to have a $5 tax applied to prostitution, claiming it would raise $2 million a year for the state, but the Legislature shied away from the proposal, which was seen as legitimizing the trade.

So $5 a trick, $2 Million= 400,000 trick per annum in Nevada brothels. Hardly a drop in the cum bucket.

Hey, see, sometimes I disagree with Democrats (Harry's wrong, I think. Ain't no way you're gonna get a better class of people in Nevada so you might as well milk the class you've got), and agree with Republicans, because Sen. Ensign's (R-Nevada) response to this proposal was:

Nevada should not ban prostitution and local governments should decide the fate of the world's oldest profession.

KTNV-TV reports the Republican [Senator Ensign] called prostitution a "county by county issue" when asked about a proposed ban on the industry after a town hall meeting in Henderson on Wednesday.

Now there's a Republican with the right family values.

Harry Reid is full of shit. If he was serious, it would of been part of his last re-election campaign.

And since he has no actual power outside of his seat in the Federal Senate, he's just blowing smoke in an effort to pander to certain groups.

Hello, JackLuis, interesting article, biased though, as everything Salon publishes is, but what the hell, everyone toots their own horn, do they not?

Most of the girls at the Moonlite Bunny Ranch are there to make a working living. Some of them support families. Some of them are working their way out of debt, sometimes medical debt.

The girls are independent contractors and they have to first sell their services to customers, then service the customers in such fashion that the customer wants to come back again. (The Bunny Ranch does make sure that the girls get paid before the customer gets off.) The girls work hard to maintain themselves in the kind of shape that the customers want. They earn good money, but they work for it.

(By the way, Barbi Girl is a better choice than Tiffany and Cami was a Hustler magazine cover girl. If a guy is gonna spend that kind of money, he needs to do a bit of comparison shopping first.)
