It's based on the fear of hell and damnation, it believes in women wearing themselves out having endless children, it's filthy rich, it's got somebody dressed in white as it's head who is elected, and then thought of as having a hot line to God, it's anti-Jew, it's heavily involved with the Mafia, it doesn't do a lot of good works and it controls the lives of millions.

Why?

It can't be faith. You can have faith without being religious.

I can only put it down to the indoctrination of the very young.

In fact it's not a religion at all but a totalitarian state...

OK. I've answered my own question...

:)

Actually, I stuck around for so long because of the wine and crackers.

that Jesus was a tasty sucker.

All I can say is that after 12 years of Catholic education and "instruction", I have become a spritual person rather than a religious person. My attitude upon graduation from high school was: "After 12 years, I know I'm NOT Catholic!".

I have to admit to wishing there were such a "religion" that would provide me with comfort and peace. I do NOT believe it is really possible with any organized type of operation though.

(This spoken from someone who at one time "early on" was hoping to become a nun!) :rose:

Don't we all.

That's why the Cathholic Church is failing in its mission...

:)

Why do people stick with the Catholic Church?

I dunno. Something to do with not using contraceptives perhaps?

On Second Thought

I thinks it's the fear of hell and damnation that keeps a lot of the catholics going.!:rose:

I'm not Catholic - never have been, never will be.

However, I think a lot of people like "rules" and "doctrines" in their lives. It makes them feel like they are doing the "right" thing. It takes the "thinking" out of their lives, out of their decisions.

Its easy to make decisions when they've been made by the church. Its easy to know where you stand, as long as you stand wherever the church directs you to stand.

However, as you can already guess, I'm against it because, religion in general expects a person to simply accept the wisdom of the church. They certainly do not want a person questioning their beliefs and their teachings.

In my humble opinion, one must always question. The moment one stops questioning life or any system of belief, one is spiritually dead.

Yes that's true.

It's a bit like being institutionalised.

Whereas the world we live in is chaotic and we all need some form of guidance (otherwise we would never find the sugar on a supermarket shelf) the Catholic Church, and any other Church for that matter, extends this practice into the private lives of individuals.

So,

The fear of damnation.

The opting out of making major personal decisions.

Any other suggestions?

That's the power of prayer not belief, or otherwise, in the Catholic Church!

:D

When Rome was crumbling, they needed another way to maintain power. They used part of their old religions to convert the most subjects.

Whatta religion! Go out, kill, maim, and rob, then go to midnight mass and get forgiven by a man whose fingers smell like ass!

Join up with the order, pretend to be celibate, and have sex with all types of young boys...with no punishment!

Be a nun, and explore all the saintly satisfaction you can achieve with garden vegetables, candles, and mother superior.

Did you know that the Vatican has the largest porno library in the world? Saw it in the Guiness Book of World Records.

I could go on, but I'll leave room for others! :D

Okay.....how about only priests could read from the "bible" for about a thousand years? Maintain power?
How about turning in jews hiding from the NAZIs?
How about helping NAZIs escape after the war?
How about erecting elaborate cathedrals lined with gold and ivory, while their "subjects" lived in poverty?
How about those fucking schools that create hatred and fear, as well as perversion with the students, and turn out some of the best hitmen in the world?
How about the conquest of the new world through murder, rape, and genocide?
How about the Inquistion? (not the Monty Python version)
How about present day obstruction of justice in the investigations of molestation of kids?
How about making the fucking pope into a God-like personage?
How about "the church" appointing people as saints?

There.....I'm all better now! :D

I just knew it would make you feel better...

So to the...

The fear of damnation and

The opting out of making major personal decisions.

We now add indoctrination of the child.

Any other suggestions?

:D

I don't know about being heavily involved with the mafia, but there aren't a lot of great reasons to be Catholic.

However, I find the same problems in all religions.

Lost Cause, all of what you say is true, canonical truth.

What do you advise me to do? The problem is that once baptised a Catholic, it cannot be undone. No way - it's like losing your virginity. You never escape.

Even if you renounce the faith, deny it, change religions - baptism is ineffaceable.
I belong to a group of people who have done all those terrible things you list. I can't escape, I am trapped, the indelible mark of baptism and confirmation is increibed on my soul. Help!

You can be unbaptised. I can save you. Meet me with a dead cat and an old boot at midnight.

Is this the one that involves the scalping procedure or the de-bollicking method?

Because if it's the first it's a dead rat and if the second you're meant to meet 1 second after midnight...

Timing is everything...

:D

Mark of the Beast, eh? There's nothing you can do, if it makes you feel better, I used to be in the same position. Some of my European family fought with the volunteer SS Divisions in WW2. Oh, well............we all have our history, just forget the guilt! :D

I'll ask laurel if she's got any dead cats. Who do I get to scalp - or debollock.

Ane where?

FYI - Many Catholic rituals and beliefs pre-date Christianity in Europe, by a few thousand years. There was a religion that worshipped the Sun and nature, not the Son, started with an 'M' sorry, name escapes me at the moment (TOT). A lot of evidence has been found in Spain of this religion. Of course it is not encouraged to talk of such things. One of the reasons why some study history.

It is hard to break thousands of years of tradition. Look at how many Catholics today are only second or third genteration Americans. In Europe find me a city without a centralized cathedral. Indoctrination starts at birth.

The Church is stonger than we think. It is truely a nation unto itself. With everything a nation has, including espionage and external security. Not to be taken lightly.
