Why do people insist on speeding through neighborhoods on Halloween?

Kids everywhere, many in dark costumes ... and assholes flying down little neighborhood streets like they're on the expressway. Happens every year, makes me livid ...

It's because a kid in a Harry Potter costume is worth 50 bonus points, silly.

Look, I agree with you. People are morons. People should slow down on Halloween, but everyone is involved in their own little world.

I don't have an answer to the problem ... but there's no room for a "but" in that last post RH.

Maybe a community effort is the answer, put signs on the corners reminding people to slow down. Maybe get volunteers to stand at the corners with flashlights, (dress them up like cops?) to try to slow people down.

Won't solve the problem but may alleviate it somewhat.

Beats just feeling helpless and struggling with the overwhelming desire to pull them out of their car and pummel them into submission.

I agree with you, but you know what makes me more livid? Seeing your av, and not being able to touch the body in it.

they dont speed in our neighborhood but they do 'ship' in the kids from all over by the vanload. I don't mind that except for the lazy ass parents that have to follow around in the car cause they're too lazy to walk.

I believe that this is why a lot of areas do Trick or Treating on a weekend, regardless of the date of Halloween. There's no real easy answer. The best you can do is to make sure that your kids are as visible as possible.

The pummeling might work though.

Was really upsetting me last night to see these kids running wild - back and forth across the street - while mom and dad sat in the car and did nothing to control their kids. I would hold my son back some when he ended up in with a group like this - the obvious "shipped" in kids who were very unruly.

I also told my daughter to tell her friends to go away from our door - none of them in costume, tried to grab all the candy from the bowl, loud and rude - they were not welcome at the house at all. Glad I didn't let her go out with them (13 - 15 year olds).

Actually people should just slow down ALL YEAR ROUND, not just on hallowe'en.

It's a constant problem.

Should be stopped.

If I had my way, I'd have speed bumps everywhere in residential streets. Preferably ones capable of responding violently to speeders.

No, I don't drive.

We get that too ... and there aren't many neighborhoods around where you wouldn't feel safe sending your kids, I always wonder where they come from ... and why.

In my case I live in a rather nice "golf" community - meaning there's a golf course running right through the middle of everything - and then just across the river (2 miles away) there is a very low income run down neighborhood - I know where the "shipped in" kids come from!

Agreed, I drive/ride fast, but not in residential zones - I have seen the results of a collision between a car and a kid, it wasn't pretty.

One of the reasons I will never ride with my ex when she drives is because she drives so fast in residential zones, and she thinks I am dangerous because I drive 80-85 down lonely stretches of I-5.
