Why do newspeople go out and stand in hurricanes to give live reports?

I saw Brian Williams, anchor of MSNBC, and Shepherd (somebody) another anchor from FOX, leaning against 90mph stinging rain down in Louisiana today.

Can't they hire somebody to go out and lean against hurricane force winds while they stay safe and warm in the studio?

I'm sure there are some unemployed people that would leap at the chance to get paid oh, say $7.50/hr to do some hurricane wind/driving rain leaning.

maybe they are the ones that are making $7.50 an hour to stand out there

Its all about the ratings. We watch because we want to see a big piece plywood come flying into them. Now that's entertainment!

The answer, my friend, is blowing in the wind.

You would think they would get Oprah, Louie Anderson, or Al Roker to stand out there. No wind could possibly move them.

Hell, Rosie O'Donnel is out of work now.

Every time I see one of those idjuts standing out there during a newscast I start praying for a stop sign to come flying down the street and lop their friggin' head off.

THAT would be worth watching!

I would do it for free...I always go outside in storms...its such a great adreniline rush, reminds me of the power of nature and re-engerizes the spirit.

LOL maybe they have some sort of weird fetish?
exibitionist? naw. too obvious..

So that we, as the viewer, can "feel" that there's actually a hurricane and it's not all just made up.

I think you've got it. If it wasn't somebody recognizable there would be a considerable outcry of "weather conspiracy!" by the Spinaroonie's and REDWAVE's of the world.

Good thinking, penicillin-girl!

Nah, the masochist part. I used to be one but I gave it up. I was enjoying it too much.
