my dog takes food out of dish and eats it on the carpet?why does she do that.im puzzled.

a) She's not human?

b) She's got no social graces?

c) She think she's a pig?

d) She's a toddler in doggie years?

e) She's mad?

f) She's "playing with her food"?

g) Your floor's cleaner than her dish?

:D

So long as he isn't eating it out of your other dog's pussy, then licking your face, you should be all right.

My parents' dog does the same thing. Not all the time, but when he seems to not really be hungry and wants to play instead.

Most small dogs do it although i have no clue why.
our poodle does it as does our friends corgies.
maybe they hear themselves eating and they put the food on the floor instead so they dont hear the noise echoing inside the bowls?

you dog thinks he/she's better than the bowl?

Misfits.... Us? Never!

We're just misunderstood cock mongers

My cat snaps the food up in her jaws, kinda throwing it into the air. This results in a small spray of kibble around her bowl. I read somewhere that cats only have tearing teeth - no grinding teeth - which means that they swallow their food in chunks.

I think dogs have more grinding teeth than cats, so I'm not sure the same explanation works. Maybe dogs just like to maneuver their food around, and the floor makes it easier to do so. Maybe they're just silly like that. My next door neighbor's dog used to eat bees.

They're hunting!

My cats like to bat their kibbles out of the dish, chase 'em around on the floor. I think pets play with their food to simulate hunting. They get bored. But when they act like they're burying it, you have to hunt for new cat food - it mean they hate it.

My cat takes the food from her dish, hops on the table, and munches away there.... Maybe she's trying to tell me something?

We have a cat that takes a piece of dry cat food out of the dish and soaks it in the water dish and then carefully takes it out with its paw and eats it, then goes for another.
Our dog gets a treat and tosses it in the air and will not eat it until you pretend to come and take it from him.
I think it is all individualistic traits of the animal.
Some dogs you will lose an arm trying to take food from it.
Ours just plays.

I gave up feeding my dogs from a bowl. They prefer the porch and the extra protein from the ants. ;)

Maybe it's the scavenger instinct. Grab it and run before something bigger and stronger takes it from you.

Can't get rid of instinct. The chihuahua does this. The dalmatian just stands over the food, hoovers down whatever he wants to eat, the guards it to keep the others from eating. Dog feeding is a challenge over here.

Thanks thumbs..

just checking in for a bit, i'll be back on duty tomorrow.

my dog does it to feel special, i think... she carries it into another room, sets it on the floor, then eats it.. one piece at a time..

my dad gets really irritated cuz it makes a mess... but he doesnt say anything about it anymore cuz she's getting old... maybe the dog's feet are cold, or the floor is dirty
