Just a Question...

I have been reading a number of threads on the boards where the Canadians all say how great their beer is...

Granted compared to Bud, Coors and Miller..It's better...but isn't that like comparing a Hundai to a Yugo?...the both are pretty vile.

Now I have been to canada and drank an awful lot of beer there but it's generall prettymuch the same as the three piss beers in the US...except for higher alcohol content.

But now in the US..there are litterally hundreds of smaller companies that make great beer that actually has taste.

Or Europe.... Hell, most beer in the UK is better than this side of the Atlantic (Guinness is my chioce)...or Germany...they know how to make beer.

Call me a Beer Snob...I take that as an honor....:p

I'm from Victoria. We have some great micro-breweries here, and they make fantastic beer. I'm not a fan of Molson or Labatt, or even Kokanee, really (although Kokanee is my beer of choice when I'm drinking to get drunk). When I want to drink to enjoy the taste of the beer, it's one of BC's micro-brewery beers... and for god's sake all you people who keep drinking pilsners... DRINK A LAGER. Dark beer kicks ass.

As far as beer from out of North America. I used to love Heinekin. I now love Tuborg, a Danish beer. It's so smooth!

I agree that the three main beers here are not all that fantastic... however, they are a million times better than the pig swill beers like bud, coors, and miller.

Honestly people, drinking pig swill can't be good for you!

The only difference between all those beers is the alcohol in the canadian ones...they are all tasteless and vile...

Well, mainly because, without knowing what beer you drank, every country is proud of their beer. Rightly or wrongly.

Now, I'm personally of the opinion that you can find decent suds in every country the real question is two fold

1) How good are the mass produced, cheap beers?
2) How does the best beer of the country stack up internationally?

I think Canada does pretty well in both categories. Some of the big, mass produced beers are not terrible(X and Molson Dry are both pretty drinkable)

and our great beers are very good. My personal fave is Upper Canada Lager right now.

What makes Canadian beer on a par with European beer is the availability of good, not exactly hugely produced beers. Moosehead, Keiths, Sleemans and the such are very, very good beers and someplaces(My local included) will run you a quarter more a bottle than your average swill.

Beer is purified yak piss. The best beer I’ve ever had was only somewhat drinkable.

Cheap is a relative concept...especially in canada.....I can get hig end beers here for the price of the cheap mass produced beers from Canada.

I like Some Canadian Beers.....Bras D'or is wonderful as is Ten Penny Ale...and I had some of the newer, darker mass produced beers this summer..all very good....

Weevil is right on, compare apples to apples. And of the mass produced, convenient to get beers the Canadian beers are as good as any in North America and easily drawf their American counterparts.

As a matter of fact it's them damn Canadian beers that make me qualified to speak on a thread about men and weight.

Of all the Micro brews.......wow.......where do you start?

“OOoh, an Aristocrat, eh?”

I wish.
No, for some reason I just can’t stand the taste of beer. I don’t think it’s because I have superior tastes as much as it is an aversion to bitterness. Sort of the way some people hate all hot sauces because they can’t stand spicy foods.

Even when figuring in the exchange rate? Jeez, what do you pay for beer 1.25?

See, I think it's ridiculous to rate a countries beers as a group total. Why rate beer you'd never drink?

Would you consider Samuel Adams a convienient to get mass produced beer in the US?...I would put that up against and Canadian Mass produced beer..

Most of the Micro brews run about $6 US for a 6pack or $21 a case of 24

The Mass produced swills run about $14 a case (You can get it for about $10 on sale)

But, of course, different strokes. Of all the foreigners I've known to introduce to canuck ale most of them have been impressed, some haven't but what are you going to do.

See, I just like beer. Rating countries beer as a whole? Never been my thing.

I hate the big Irish beers(Guiness, Smithwicks), which was almost enough to get me excommunicated for the 11th time.

But, I'd rate my drinking beer in Ireland as A+. I spent most of my time in an area known as Temple Bar(I think) and there was a local microbrew that made their version of an "american style beer" and it was probably the tastiest beer I've ever had.

So, it's about finding gems not dismissing rocks.

Oh, for a pre-drink?

I've never been about buying beer in bulk. I drink Rye at home.
