Why ask for specific names?

I sometimes see requests for stories with specific names to be emailed to specific addresses. It occured to me that this is a possible way to harrass someone... I don't think it would work very well.

But anyway, why in general ask for a story with specific names?

Peterpan,

Story customization often gives people a rush. Many folks can't live vicariously through a character who is too different from themselves. The character having the same name as them simply makes it easier for them to identify with the character.

I've written a few tales like that for people. I also incorporate physical and psychological details about the person to bring even more realism to the story, but it seems that having a character called by their own name is always the most telling factor in the equation.

Of course a much simpler solution is to find a story that tweaks your nipples and do a search and replace so that the hero's name is changed to yours

And also edit height, weight, eye and hair colour, attitudes, and everything else that a customized story offers? Also have to be careful of name forms. The same person can be referred to in many ways. For example a woman named Barbara Kensington might be called Barb, Barbara, or Babs, depending upon whom addresses her. Hell, she might be called Ms. Kensington if she's at work. You'd have to go through it with a meticulous eye to catch every reference in passing.

Besides all that, isn't it a rush when someone creates something to your specifications, for solely your pleasure? That is why people commission art and the like.

Both sound reasonable. It must be nice to feel that someone has written a story thinking about you, and considering your desires.

There is seldom much beyond name included though. Perhaps they want suggestions for how they should think and feel as well. I can relate to that too.

not to mention

you cand forward it to your girlfriend and tell her you wrote it .. rofl

Hmm. My idea about just changing names is just a quick fix that only works on basic tales which are untroubled by details such as plot or background. But, hey, I reckon that covers about 90% of the total available. God bless the other 10%.

Now who'd do a thing like that?

When I was younger I had a mate who would. After a few dates with a new girlfriend he'd put on an embarrassed voice and face, then confess that he had written a poem for her.
It would take the intrigued girl about an hour of intense persuasion to get him to overcome his reluctance (in those days poetry was not seen as being a manly pastime) but finally he'd produce a tattered scrap of paper and recite it. It started "How do I love thee? Let me count the ways....." and went on to recount all of them. He said it never failed to impress and none of them ever challenged his authorship. If their IQ was larger than their bust size they were non-runners so he was on safe ground
