Why aren't the pictures showing up?

Anyone know what happened to cause the pics to stop showing automatically? Is there a setting I need to turn on? Very annoying to have to download them one at a time.

Well I can't tell you why the pics aren't showing up...but I'm running into the same problem. It is a pain....hope it's worked out.

Apparently the pics, especially on this forum are slowing things down all round so Manu has changed the system so that pics now show as attachments. I am not convinced but there again I'm no expert in these matters.

I'm used to this being the World Wide Wait so why change it now? hehe

Downloading pictures?

I don't think so. Can't we just have the pictures appearing as they were? This takes bloody ages for them to appear, surely there must be a way of saving memory and displaying a small version of the picture like a "preview".

Perhaps some of you do not realize what a drain on bandwith the pictures are. Each time you open the thread the pics load from the server, whether you have seen them 100 times or never before, the current change allows for better server efficiency.

It may not seem faster now but Laurel and Manu and undertaking a vast nummber of changes, the reason? To make things better for us. Remember this is a free site, with very unobtrusive advertising.

If you image link to the pics at another location they will in fact show up, so maybe you should urge others to do that before you complain too much.

Its worth repeating..its a free site.

Wasn't complaining

Modest - being a computer professional i do know about bandwidth and the like. I wasn't complaining. I just wanted to be sure I hadn't inadvertantly turned a swtich that stopped the pictures from automatically loading. Since I have a fast connestion I would prefer the autoload, but I certainly bow to the supperior knowledge of those who moderate this wonderful (yes I know it is free and appreciate that) site. If this way works best for the majority I can happily live with it.

My statement wasnt directed at you, but this thread will be the one opened by the poeple who just lurk in the Pic section. So I intended it as a general comment for the ebsueing "Where are all the pics?" posts that were about to come.

I actually prefer it this way, threads i have already opened load faster when I am getting caught up on them. I dont spend alot of time in this forum perusing for pics so it is not a tremendous issue for me.

I suspect the 56k people should be very happy, I suspect many of them didnt know you could choose just to show links the whole time.

As for me, I am on a 56 k connection, and I did know you could opt to see just links, but I vastly prefer autoloading. Even though it slows things down quite a bit. Why? Because I know how to use more than one instance of a browser to surf the web at once. I have six different desktops, all of which are in use. On each of the last five, I usually have one or two browsers open simultaneously. That way, while one thing is loading, I can be looking at the thing to have finshed loading last..

I use Linux, and I don't know if Windows XP has multiple desktops, but it should not be any big deal for someone to run ten browsers at the same time under any version of Windows. Aside, perhaps, from maybe becoming a little confusing. Then again, once you get used to running several instances of a browser at the same time, you'll be absolutely amazed at how much you can do at once.

I prefer the autoloading of images, but I understand and respect the moderators' choice of action. Since this is a free site, and I am not paying for it, I bow to their choice.
