than we are to ourselves? Why do we put others before ourselves?

Just wondering.

Lo

I don't.

Unless it's food with little kids or something.

I can't help others if I'm not taking care of myself.

If you're talking about politeness, or niceness, then it's still the same. I'm just as judgemental of others as I am myself. I just don't share that with them.

Because we are caring human beings :)

Or because we were forgotten when we were kids and we know what it feels like so we conteract that by helping others before ourselves......

Everyone has a different reason....

:)

I try to treat people in the same manner I like to be treated - sadly this sometimes makes me a walking doormat.
Still I wouldn't change the way that I am, I like to treat people nice, I like the good feeling that I have about myself knowing that I have made someone else feel respected.

Being better to other people than you are to yourself, in a general sense, is a lot of times a sign of low self-esteem. Now, I'm not saying if it's some little thing... but I think you know if it's a problem. If your needs are being neglected consistently in order to please the needs of others... that's definitely a problem.

I used to have it, myself. It's horrible in relationships... be it dating or just friendship. :(

Not that you should suddenly treat others worse. Just treat yourself better. *Chuckles.* Realize your limits and your needs... pay attention to them. If you just cater to everyone else, you'll likely find yourself secretly resenting THEM for a choice that YOU are making.

There's something to be said about being caring and going the extra mile. But when you're unhappy about it, the situation needs to be fixed.

Raar. I have rather strong feelings on the matter, if only because of my former struggle with it. *Laughs.*

Good question.

Maybe it's the way an individual was raised. Maybe it's just human nature. I go out of my way for others and expect nothing in return. I make sure I have my neccesaties(?) but never splurge on myself. Of course my job has to do with putting other peoples lives before mine so maybe I am the way I am because of that. I've been told I'm a sucker but ya know what? I can look in the mirror everyday and be happy with what I see.

What go around, comes around.

If I'm 'nicer than I have to be' to people, then they may act nicer to me. That sounds rather weak at first, but if my day turns out just a bit better than it could have because of it, day after day, then that would have a huge impact on my general outlook. Which right now is pretty high.

LOL
That's pretty funny because right now, I am high. LOL

If I ever help a stranger, the only thing I ask in return is taht they help someone else. I have to trust that they will be as nice to someone, as I was to them.

Sure it may be the whole Kharma thing, what goes around comes around. But does it really?

I believe in kharma, I believe that what goes around comes around...........Ok we can't know for certain - but who's taking chances!

:D

Its like when your late for work speeding at 90 miles and hour knowing that you can't slow down for anyone or anything. Then up ahead you see a family of geese start to cross the road part of you wants to run them all over just to show you don't give a fuck, but the other part which i will now refer to as the little voice of jimminy crickit. tells you to slam on the brakes because "Damnit they ar ducks" basicly we all have that damn nagging voice that wont let us hit the ducks to see them splat on the window.

 Not the cute little ducklings!

Does Karma still work if you're nice to youself?

I think it does. Like today, I took a day off from going to the nursing home to see my grandpa. I feel a little shitty about it, but tomorrow I'll enjoy being there, instead of it feeling like a chore.
