Why am I surprised by her reaction?

Given the choice of fending off a Chihuahua and a pitbull--being forced to make the choice--I'll work with the Chihuahua, I think.
Without a doubt. It would take at least twenty Chihuahuas to bring down and adult of my size-- where one Pit could do it alone.

(As long as we don't go over the eighteen of the little bastards that we have around here, I'm cool) :p

Of course the main problem with a problem dog is the owner.

In a place where I lived, there was a condo down the street. It was the only place in the area that allowed pets. It seemed that most of the people who bought condos had 100 lb dogs. The dogs quickly killed the only cat in the place. The big dogs then began to have often fatal fights in the hallways. People got chopped up, small dogs got chopped up. Eventually, the condo went through an almost complete change of ownership. The rules were changed to NO PETS!

Seems rather unfair to people wanting to have cats (tongue only half in cheek). How did the lone cat contribute to the problem?

Aggravated the situation?
bah, I agree with you though... a cat is a rather different pet from a howling beast of the baskervilles...

I'm imagining the blood-stained carpets in those hallways and the Winchester boys coming to lay all the ghosts...
