Who's Your Favorite, Calvin or Hobbes?

Calvin.

altho Red and Rover have helped to fill the empty place in my heart for Calvin & Hobbes. do other papers carry them yet, or just the Post?

Both. I can't choose one over the other; they both reflect sides of my personality. Of course most people will pick Calvin because he is the main character and Hobbes is mainly his foil.

I agree that it is hard to pick between the two. I mean who could not fall for the blissfull ignorance that Calvin has as he charges into his adventures. But then again Hobbes' powers of observation and innate intelligence is way beyond his years. But wait, that was the intent...I can't pick I just love the cartoon.

Hobbes is my favorite... I can see parts of me reflected in him. :D

The best thing is that Bill Waterson chose the characters' names so well.

John Calvin, while puritanical in his theology, thought materialism and wealth (and the pursuit of) were good. And this quote is appropriate for the little blond kid: "May little chickens dig out your eyes 100,000 times," Calvin said to Servatus, another reformer.

Thomas Hobbes, on the other hand, was more politically inclined and his thoughts on government are relevant today. In addition, Hobbes believed that humans were basically selfish creatures who would do anything to better their position and needed a guiding hand in order to control their evil desires.

"Leisure is the mother of philosophy." is my favourite Hobbes quote, and that is, too, appropriate for the tiger.

Holy Shit!

I think I'm going to have to study up on those two people and then reread through my Calvin and Hobbes collection to reanalyze what was said.

Thanks :)

Ditto, if I had to choose I'd have to say Hobbes.

my favorite thing is knowing there are a few 'collections' out there that I dont won yet...there are still more cartoons I can see for the first time

i can't wait

p.s. i stole my sigline from calvin...can anyone recall context of the strip?

Last year I decided it would be cool if I owned a Hobbes stuffed animal. Since Watterson didn't allow any merchandising of his product I had to look around to see if I could get one custom made.

Nothing doing. No one would touch it. Maybe I can make one myself. I just have to learn how to sew.
