My friend wants to go see it tonight. I ususally doubt sequels so...opinions? Any good? How does it compare to Silence of the Lambs?

Hubby and I saw it a few weeks ago...It was good...not as good as Silence of the Lambs, but definitely worth seeing.

Ditto. I saw it opening weekend and I liked it.

The Doctor is in!

Yeah, Hannibal was good.
Visually, well art directed, with a film noir aspect.
A good storyline, but once again, falls short of the book.

Worth seeing, but not a much psychological impact as Silence.

Not so good

I saw it opening weekend. I was not particularly impressed. As I mentioned in an earlier thread (and maybe you'd want to check it out; it started 2/26/01 and was title Hannibal the movie....)Anthony Hopkins is entertaining in anything, but I feel this sequel was more about gore and the killer than suspense or the psychological mind play.

I gave it a 3 on a 1 to 10 scale. I did not like JulieAnne Moore in the role. I could not remember if Ray Liotta was in the first one?

I don't think any of the characterization or character interactions were handled as in depth as they could be:

Clarice vs. the agency screwing her
Hannibal and Clarice a love connection?
Clarice and how the experiences 10 years ago changed her?
etc etc

Maybe the book is better. I did not read.

Have also seen it on opening weekend and very much enjoyed the whole movie. This sequel was slightly better then Silence of the Lambs in my opinion, although many will disagree with me on that. Very gory, but also very well written with an interesting plot. For some reason, most of the people that I talk with from Lit through IMs or Email haven't seen this yet. In my eyes, you're missing out if you don't check out this movie. :)

The book is fantastic...

Everything is far more plausible. And the dinner party at the end? Oh man...

As to C and H getting it together, remember that he does sort of zombie her into it at first. But then she accepts it... and as we're all (self) aware on this site, what you fight the hardest can be what you most desire.

Works in the book, anyway. I only go to the movies once every year or two.

I'm looking forward to seeing it.

I saw it and thought it wasn't a patch on Silence of the Lambs. Poor character development, and I didn't really find it particularly scary (apart from the very last part on the plane)

Just preferred Silence of the Lambs since most of the violence was implied rather than actually displayed. The imagination can be a lot more terrifying when it's at work!

Look for the other thread about the movie (but be careful, I think there are plot spoilers there.)

I thought it was better than I expected it to be. I expected to hate it. I thought for sure it wasn't going to live up to the original. It really wasn't too bad. And I thought Julianne Moore did a good job, considering she was replacing someone who won an Oscar for her portrayal of the character.

ouchie

Well I am just a real Thomas Harris fan so of course I liked it. Yeah it was gory and maybe the story lagged a little. But the rich guy? every billionaire should have it so good.

But two great lines...'I may just decide to eat your wife tonight'...a whole new meaning that made parts of me wanna be sauteed...lol...but even better, right near the end when he is handcuffed to Clarisse...'this is going to hurt'....much ouchie...make it hurt sweetie...

and the little girl on the airplane? she can be the female Lector in the next sequel? what mother hasn't said 'try just a bite, you might like it?'

Haven't seen it. Read the book (also a Harris fan!), and have a love/hate relationship with it.

I loved what was done with Hannibal. We get to see him in his element, rather than locked and chained in a dark dungeon. There were points in the book that I thought, "This guy is Satan!" It was that creepy.

However, I hated what was done to Clarice! The things she does in the book don't seem to be in line with her character at all. Maybe the movie is better in this regard...

I'll probably wait to see it on video.
