Whoops

I was wondering why I was getting lower ratings on a recent story and I think maybe it’s because I didn’t warn the reader there was going to be some pegging happening. I guess I just assumed everyone likes thinking about pegging sometimes.
I can't say I've ever thought much about pegging, but are readers in NC/R that picky?

Weird. I feel like the kinds of erotic stories where pegging could happen are just the kinds of stories where the reader should expect pegging to happen (femdom, lesbian, bdsm).

Was this some kind of Loving Wives story gone wrong?

Wait, are you saying the only way pegging happens is NC/R?

Umm...

Edit: Never mind, searched for the OPs stories, and realize that the story being referenced is in NC/R :)

It'd be real nice if readers paid any attention to the tags. I'm not sure why a story not being a person's "thing" is worth a low rating, but it sure seems to be. That especially seems to be the case for anything gay male-related (even if the pegging is being done by a woman, the mere fact that a guy is taking it in the ass is gay-coded enough for some people who don't like it to leave a low rating).

Edit: Fixed derpiness.

So true about the tags, it's clearly listed. Well, I guess we get the full range of the bell-curve of individuals reading and voting :)

I'll simply point out this also applies to me writing:

When I talk, my brain is frequently way ahead of my mouth, and I've been known to mash whole sentences into a single sound. When I write, the same thing happens, and I'll be thinking the word "male" while writing "gay" and get "gale."

Unfortunately, there are a fair amount of Incels here and anything that smacks of homosexuality comes as a personal insult to them. Why they can't just bail out of a story and move on, no one knows.

I may or may not have made a similar mistake when warning readers about an intense chapter. Idk if the 1s were because they didn't expect things to get that dark or they felt like the twist was some kind of character assassination (which doesn't make sense if they paid attention).

Either way, to me feedback is feedback. They cared enough to vote 1 so they felt something other than indifference.

Why should only those who want to kiss your ass be allowed to vote? What's the point of having a rating system if people aren't allowed to actually rate the stories?

If you can't handle the truth, you can always turn off ratings and comments.

Aren’t most of the readers using mobile these days? At least when I browse for stories, I don’t see any tags - except in the very end of the story. So for the choice of which story to read I only have things like title, description, category and rating.

Did you switch back to Classic? If not, while it defaults to the "i" for information, you can click on the image of the two overlapping tags next to it to switch to the tag list. On my mobile, it's right at the top, rather than off to the right like it is on my desktop browser.

I think I'm going to start sticking the tags in the author's note at the start. Save everyone a lot of hassle from going "There's non-humans??? You freak!" partway through the story, and let them say that right out of the gate.

I put mine in fetish, and it went over pretty well. It's sitting somewhere in the mid 4.7s with 800 some-odd votes.

Drop it in any other category, and yeah, it gets treated more or less the same as M/M outside GM — which is to say rather poorly. In addition to that, it's inherently femdom, which also gives some people the ick. It's one of those kinks that if you mix it with anything else, it's likely to torpedo the response.

I don't want my ass kissed. I want an honest vote and comment about the quality of the story and of my writing.

But that's not what we're talking about. We're talking about people down voting because their tender feelings were hurt because the subject matter wasn't strokable for them.

Kinda like your comment here.

So you're saying you can't stroke yourself to @IWroteThis's comment here?

Bullshit! You specifically said that you don't want an honest vote, but rather just votes from people who liked the story.

No, we're talking about people who were enticed to click on a story based on the available information (title, description, category, and rating), only to dislike the story and leave honest feedback that reflects that.

This might come as a shock to you, but this is an adult entertainment site, not an online English Lit class. There is a reason that the words under the stars are about entertainment value, not A, B, C, D, and F.

Where was this said? The comment implied that he didn't want votes from people who aren't the intended audience of the story. If a person reads a story with pegging and they don't like pegging, that doesn't mean the story is bad. It just means the reader isn't the intended audience. If that reader gives a 1 star, that's not a reflection of the story's quality.

I mean, personally I would laugh out loud if someone who doesn't like femdom came into my comments and complained about the femdom in my story. It's just more feedback and engagement for me, but idk what they'd be getting out of it.
