Who would you ignore?

If you were to have the option of ignoring certain users (like in an internet chatroom) on the bulletin board, would you take advantage of it? And if so who would you ignore?

Personally I find it quite entertaining to view posts of people I dislike but maybe others would disagree and would rather a kinder nicer BB.

Is censorship acceptable if self-regulated?

I have used the "ignore" button many times in chat rooms at AOL. Typically it's to block annoying kids that scroll in the room though.

It is quite often that people post things that piss me off, annoy me, infuriate me. But just as often those same people make me laugh, make me think stimulate me ... then there is Dave.

Freedom of choice and freedom of expression go hand in hand here, as they should in life.

I probably wouldn't use one here, because anyone truly obnoxious gets the word immediately.

I have used them in chat rooms. Usually, as Tiggs said, on bratty children who are just out for trouble.

However, if I'd used one on my friend Babel -- I told him off instead -- I'd have missed out on a great friendship and a kid with a great sense of humor (think: knitting lessons via ICQ). Also, he gives me very sound computer advice.

As for censorship, well, we all practice it to some extent, by selecting which posts to read, respond to, or ignore. I don't think a button is really needed here.

I don't think I would ignore anyone, I'm the type that would confront them head on. I usually yell and say mean things til they end up ignoring me, I can be such a witch at times.

One can be a "bitch" or a "nasty, vicious, acid-tongued virago," but to be a witch is a positive thing.

To me, this BB is what it is because of the diversity of opinions and personalities of the members... what fun would it be if I blocked out certain members and their opinions?? Isn't the point of posting on a BB to get different opinions and outlooks?

If you want a BB where censorship is possible, perhaps you should go to Yahoo! or somewhere where there are a million BB's with rules and "ignore" buttons and very specific topics. This happens to be a sex site, for those of you who have forgotten, and censorship just doesn't belong.

Getting back to the question at hand here.

Flagg I wouldn't ignore anyone, that's rude, don't you think. But if I do have a problem with you then I won't constanly follow you around and dump on you either, I will tend to read what you have to say and then leave it at that. Unless I fully disagree with you then I will post. But as far as ignoring anyone then no I can't do that.

I am not heading this at you Flagg, this is my opinion on everyone on the board.

I'd ignore everyone apart from Laurel and snicker quietly to myself about the strange woman talking to herself.

Then I'd ignore everyone apart from Sweet Deborah and play a driving style game - seeing how many times she says: "Money talks and bullshit walks" or mentions the word "Flagg".

After that I'd spend a bit of time devising a program that turns every third word on any post into a rude sexual swearword.

I'd laugh for quite a long time when I realised that Lasher's posts were now just one long stream of obscenities - kind of like a manic Tourette's Syndrome sufferer.

After that I think I'd teach myself how to juggle and run off to join the circus, or maybe train to become an Astronaut.

I would ignore myself and stalk Roger. I would stalk Deborah but she is armed and dangerous.. Flagg I promised to leave alone from now on since he is so young. I would always listen to Laurel she always makes me think. Actually there are many people on the board I read and then ponder their point of views. I like the variety and I don't have to like or agree with them to enjoy them.

I liked Flagg a lot better when she was a girl (Crystal). I mean, she did start that Literotica Reunion thang which was big fun.

I ignore plenty of people already, by not posting. I tangled with that putz earenstlover for a while, but it's too damn easy to slam him, and I don't want to spend my time slamming people, so I'm just going to ignore him now. (Of course now he'll post something so outrageous and stupid like how JFK was killed by a third gunman who was into Tantric Sex that I'll just DIE if I don't repsond and you'll all bag on me for doing so, so damn it, I take it all back! Never say never, kids. Never say never.)

As for the world of wicca (which has long fascinated me ever since before I became a professional magician) I think maybe the time is right for the faithful to give up on trying to reclaim the word "witch" because the rest of the Halloween loving, Wizard of Oz devotional world just won't let you. A "witch", despite what you and I know to be the contrary, is a big ugly woman in a black pointy hat and a green nose who eats babies. It's a losing battle, so why fight it? I say do what the African-Americans have done, re-claim your own heritage by coming up with a less egregious name to define yourselves. Replace "witch" with, what...? Wiccan-American? I don't know. Something more "prose" I suppose. Anything but "witch", which is too cemented in our pop culture consciousness as a Creature Feature diva to ever be changed. True Wiccans deserve better.

As has been said elsewhere, trying to organize wiccans, pagans and witches is a lot like herding cats. It can't be done. Let the wiccans be wiccans, the witches be witches, and let's all do the happynekkidpagandance together under the Lammas moon.
