This is going to be the mother of all hockey games to
end all hockey games!

The Canadians have not won a gold medal in ice hockey
in 50 years! Will they be able to pull it off?

USA has not won an ice hockey medal since "Miracle
on Ice" in 1980. Will the "tradition" of winning on
home soil hold up?

"USA, USA, USA!!!"

I know who I want to win tomorrow, cuz I'm their
long-lost mascot! :)

Much as I'd like to see the home team win, I think Canada will finally get their long-awaited gold tomorrow night. They seem to be getting their game together at the right time--and the near-collapse of the US team last night has me worried.

I just hope it's as good a game as it promises to be.

Ahhhh!!!!

Da boys from up North will win!

Im a Canadian living in Japan and I have been trying very hard to follow the olympic news....so far its been tough.

Canada

I voted Canada for obvious reasons but at least it is two teams that I like that are in the finals.
I hope the referee lets them play and the game lives up to our expectations.

I already said

sunday Canada wins it over the US 5-3

first period US will dominate with 1-0
then in second period Canada will come back US winning 3-2,
last period Canad gets our second wind and woops them in the last few mins.

and didn't the Mirical on Ice happen in Canada, I thought that year the olympics were in Vancover?

"Our Boys of '80" by tigerjen

the magical year was 1980
and our boys weren't at all lazy
so they fought back the Soviets
whose goal needed to be met
by a gold medal so pure
but they couldn't endure
the good fight of the red, white,
and blue
and our boys won very true
and went on to beat the Finns
so they could clinch that gold
medal win!

a fitting tribute to a wonderful team...never to be
forgotten!

It will be a tight game, I expect ... but if our girls can win on American ice, the men's team can win as well. There's a better mix of players on the Canadian team than in Nagano... hockey's a funny game, though... a bounce here, a goalpost there ... regardless of the result, I expect Canada to outplay, outchance and outshoot the USA... let's hope we also outscore! :D

USA !

Here I am!!:D

This is actually a tougher one to choose than I had expected! (I mean, all those "Rangers" and everything!!). Plus I know first hand what a 50-year old drought can feel like! (Was it 54 years between Stanley Cups for NYRs?)

Anyway, I have voted for U.S.A., but would be just about as happy if Canada wins! I hope it's a close exciting game too!:rose:

Jenny, you're right...it was a 54 year wait before the NY Rangers
finally won a Stanley Cup again! :)

It would be the best if the USA won, but if Canada won, I think that
I would be happy for them because they have not won a hockey
medal in 50 years, so if they do win, its worth the wait ......we
shall see!

On the day before the big game...

I think it's appropriate to bring up an issue that the NHL has been skating around the last few days, refusing to confirm whether they will let their players play in Italy in four years.

With regards to keeping the Olympics for amateurs only - I ask what's the difference between an amateur cross-country skier and a pro? For the Olympics, all countries wish to send their best, regardless of their professional status. Among countries who participate in ice hockey, it's one of the crown jewels of Olympic achievement - we need to send our best.

The only problem with the winter games - as opposed to basketball and the summer games - it falls right in the middle of the NHL season. For that reason, I still wish that we had a Canada Cup tournament as in years past that would be played in September, before the season starts when the players are rested and able to give their all without the distractions of an 82-game season.

Just a few thoughts... :)

India and Pakistan play hockey. It's a Summer Games sport. Americans call it "field hockey" and are awful at it. My prediction: U.S. 3, Canada 2.

There will be no Olympic break in the NHL in 2006. The league will not shut down for 10 days so players can travel to Torino and back. It would be nice for each country to be able to use its best players but NHL clubs pay millions of dollars and they think they should have priority.

Gary Bettman was able to convince teams to allow NHL players in the Nagano and Salt Lake City Games as a way to boost viewership and PR for the NHL.

yes see they are awful at it cause.... it's not a game lol

Hocky ment for the ice, or on asphalt :)

and they are both just called 'hockey' hehe.

Every time I watch the sport I think "This makes soccer obsolete".

I hoping for a match free of controversy.
I'll be happy for either country to win, because I think they're both deserving.

I hope they don't riot in Canada should they bring back both hockey golds. I bet they'll be beyond excited.:)

Another two cents worth!

I'm hoping that tomorrow's game is an exciting one.

This match is like an all star game with a purpose!

BTW, wouldn't it be great if they could "break" the season 4 years from now and let each country represented in the NHL send their "all stars" to the Olympics!.

An all star game with medals!!:rose:
