"Who really knows where lies the dividing line between fantasy and reality?"

Diana I hope you don't mind...but your signature line really made me think and I thought it was a good question...
So...

"Who really knows where lies the dividing line between fantasy and reality?"

No I don't mind at all. Even I am not sure of the answer myself -- the line blurs so much from day to day. In the time I have been at lit some fantasies have become a beautiful reality and some reality seem like I am living in a fantasy world.

Is there a line at all? Fanatasy is only a reflection of a reality that you desire. Everyone has the capacity to turn fantasy into reality, it's only a matter of accepting the consequences.

Fantasy begins in the mind, cogito ergo sum, ergo no one else can sum cause I can't cogito for them. Solopisim.

No, wait,

Fantasy begins with the senses. If I can't feel it, see it, taste it, hear it, or smell it, it cannot exist, so everything out of my range is fantasy.

Okay, who could tell I'm in a philosophy class? They're making me do it. Apparently one cannot go through a university without some form of philosophy. Ugh.

I don't have to take any philosophy! :p Or calculus for that matter! :p:p

Well, to be honest, I give him credit for coming up with good questions. It's with his answers that the Land of Narnia, Oz, Middle Earth and Dante's fanciful Levels of Hell enter into the picture.

(Hmm. I've been bashing Todd with a lot of unprovoked attacks lately. Think I'll stop. Until, of course, he posts about how the Democrats faked the moon landing or something...)

Reality is the physical world, fantasy is what your mind does to the physical world. You can't percieve the difference between them because you can't experiance reality except through the filters and add ons of your mind.

But reality does exist.

You mean they didnt?

:p

"Who really knows where lies the dividing line between fantasy and reality?"

I do. Its wherever you want it to be.

OK... less vague...

For each and everyone of us what we experience is real - yet science has shown us over and over that no two people experience the same thing in exactly the same way. Therefore each of us has our own "reality" and, therefore, any dividing line between reality and fantasy is also of our own creation.

OK... less abstract...

By common agreement I think most people would say that what we experience "in the flesh" is what we define as reality. And, also by common agreement, I think most people would say that what we "imagine" (i.e. - with our minds rather than our bodies) is what we define as fantasy.

Where does that leave the cyberworld? In a somewhat vague grayish mist inbetween - one that is constantly in motion - sometimes closer to "reality" and sometimes closer to "fantasy."

There are REAL people interacting here. Sometimes they are sharing their version of reality with each other, sometimes they are making up fantasies that they are sharing with (or foistering on)others.

THERE IS NO LINE. There is a DMZ (de-militarized zone).

OK... less theory, more truth...

Whether it is provoked by something "real" (someone sharing the same general physical nearby space as you) or by "fantasy" (in your mind) or by "cyber-realism" (someone you are interacting with online - YOUR EMOTIONS ARE REAL. What you feel, how it affects you - that is real - whatever the impetus may be.

I don't draw lines - I make choices.

what?

I was drifting between reality and fantasy and kind of lost my train of thought as I read that Dilly.............
:D

Ah Siren - I think you actually understand better than most... *smile*

The only thing I can really say is that although Dilly tried less vague, less abstract, he never really gets the prize for less wordy. ;)

These words define the nature of our reality in this cyberworld... being the "strong, silent type" online is kind of without meaning - hell the "strong silent type" in online terms pretty well describes "lurker" (strong or otherwise).

Less wordy is the same as asking me to be "less Dilly"...

MMmmmmmmmmmmmm Dilly

:p

Does that mean that my big Smoothie of Fantasy and Reality isnt going to be unscrambled?

I hate it when I have to continually go to the blender, ya know?

It interferes with the flow of things.....

Sort of like, well like, um.....

a Reality Check.

Just be careful you lick the sides of that smoothie before it melts down your hands...

And - nothing ever interferes with the flow of things... the flow is eternal...

Reality Checks however can be overdrawn.

Is that like

Less verbose = less Gnufi?

It is being the like there is never the any less of the Gnufi there is the always the more when I am being the near the hot sex babes of the Literotica! The wordy's are what I am the having here to be the sharing of the defining of what the me who is the Gnufi is the really all the about. It is that you are the understanding of this in the bumps of your shiver skin... yahs? I am the saying that the verbose of the writing that is the talking in the place that this is the being is the communication of the medium that this is the affording to the all of the us that are being the here and now!
