Who reads Patricia Cornwell's best-sellers?

They are so dumb-dumbed down for the general American audience I couldn't read more than the first a few pages of one of her book.

I mean, her heroine is pixie blonde medical examiner, that is to say a babe with a brain, and she had to explain idiot ''male'' detective what DNA was! Or, is it that American cops are too stupid to know what DNA is for real?

Good thing I got it from a second-hand shop.

Actually I have a good friend who reads them. It surprised me to learn this about her; she's very smart and is actually a forensic anthropologist, did an internship in the NYC medical examiner's office (now THERE are some good stories) and knows her way around a crime scene. Yet she reads these trashy books. I asked her why and she laughed, yeah, she knows they're crap, but she spends most of her reading time studying reports and studies and doing research etc. so they're like a little 'light' junk food for the eyes when she's on the train, or just before bed or whatever. I guess it's like why some people watch Eastenders or whatever.

Have you watched the BBC program about Patricia's pursuit for the identity of Jack the Ripper? (aired about a week ago) What a crap theory that was!

Did you notice the non-too-sattle way she showed off how rich she is? She writes crap and a crappy persona too.

I didn't. Can't say as I'm sorry to have missed it. But I remember reading about it last year, when that "From Hell" film (which I thought was quite good, considering I saw it on a teeny tiny airplane screen) was coming out and JtR debate was all the rage. I think I read something about her -ahem - research in the Guardian and whoever the journo had the opinion it was essentially a load.

Jonny Depp films are usually pretty good. His effort on cockney accent was a decent one. (Think of certain Robin Hood with remarcably American accent) Jonny clains to have decended from part Jeep ancestor.

I've read all of her Kay Scarpetta books. I love them.

Tis her other books that I cannot stand.

If you read her books in order, they make alot more sense.

Yes, who would have thought in the 21 Jump Street days that the prettiest boy of the bunch would also turn out to be actually very talented? I think 'Crybaby' is probably the first film where he got to show he had some real guts to bring to the screen. I've generally been pretty impressed with his films (that I have seen).

I saw him once here in London (in Hamleys of all places!) and he is actually just supernaturally good looking, it's nearly hypnotic. Not usually the type of fella I go for but in this case I could be persuaded to make an exception.

Ugh, I can't stand Patricia Cornwell books. Just...ugh.

Give me Jeffrey Deaver any day.

Did you notice him in ''Platoon''? (I might be mistaken him for some other, now, mega-famous stud) He died pretty quick anyway. LOL

Okay, I'll go for his French wife. She gets naked a lot.

To each his own...I really enjoy her, though I do find myself wishing for a few sex scenes.
I don't see anything at all trashy about crime scenes, autopsies, and "whodunit's".
Oh also, her interviews and whether or not she tries to show her wealth have nothing at all to do with her writing.

She is still an over-acheiving attention whore.

''My father left on Christmas Eve. I want attention. Blah, blah, blah.''
