I ran across some photos of TV/movie charters from my youth a little bit ago - like this one of Paladin from "Have Gun Will Travel"

The moment I saw him I thought, "Woof!" and I could hear him saying something like "On your knees, Bitch" - he sure looks like a Dom to me and I expect he may have influenced what I expect a Dom to look and act like - at least at some sub-conscious ("sub" hee hee - get it?) level.

I'm on the "old" end of the age scale around here and my images may be before your time. Ok, so looking back now, who do you feel influenced your idea of what a Dom/Domme personality is like?

Posting pics allowed, but not required. Hell, you can even hijack this silly little thread of mine if you want.

ps - what was Paladin's first name?

Sian Phillips performance as Livia in I, Claudius. Without the killing and poisoning and stuff.

I just figured this one out a couple of days ago when I went to go visit my former karate dojo. While attempting to make conversation with the head teacher, he managed to, with hardly saying anything, make me stammer and twist my tongue, drop my eyes, and just generally made me want to throw myself at his mercy for forgiveness when unable to justify why I hadn't come to class this summer in a proper fashion. (Now that I think about it, being a state away at school is a good enough excuse....however...at the time I was like...about to jump on my own sword.)

He's a man who is confident and unafraid to show exactly who is boss. (Him, of course.) I'm sure it didn't hurt that through my formative years he was unintentionally appealing to my masochist side through martial arts......

Oh, and if we're talking Fantasy....? Movie!Snape. (Or Fanfiction!Snape)

Reading this I'm fairly certain I didn't exactly answer the question, or did in a way that's so obscure that you may need the Rosetta Stone to be able to translate. Appy-polly-lodgies.

Al Pacino during the tango scene in "Scent of a Woman."

Of course, a good half of it could be the music (also in "Schindler's List" and affects me the same way) and another significant portion goes to his partner and her responses -- laugh, hair, etc.

Tango!

Dadgum, Shanky... yer making me think.

And think...

Aaannnnd THINK!

Gawd... I hate to say this... but this is a no-shitter:

Seriously... Supes exemplifies in my mind the belief that "With great power comes great responsibility."

And for my belief that a Dominant should be nurturing, kind, gentle, but ready and able to bring the hammer down (if necessary), I look no further than:

Lorne Greene, as Ben Cartwright or Commander Adama is the "Daddy Dom" personafied.

And that part of me that I always, ALWAYS keep tightly controlled...

Never, ever confuse the witty reparte', the bantering, the urbane and sophisticated exterior with what lies beneath. The wrapping paper and box could be ripped away at any time to reveal the monster that hides, buried and waiting, to escape.

Yes, definitely to both of the last! Neon P.S., the horses were a myth, started by certain representatives of foreign powers that couldn't handle such a strong woman ruler...

Yes, I know. Russian history is a hobby. I use to follow around the museum exhibits when they came to the states. Only reason I ever had to step in Jackson, Mississippi. They had 7 rooms from the the palace on display.

Susan Shellogg: Unnatural Acts.

Even had my daughter read the book a few years ago, she passed it around to her friends and they were "dominatrixes" for halloween.

Now, from one history geek (although by no means an expert in Russian history) to another, that sounds like heaven. :cathappy: Neon

Talk about absolute freedom.

A history lesson was the last thing I expected but still very educational, thank you. :)
