Who has the biggest

Not me that for sure.

I read and give them away. Books should be read. What good are they for stuffed on a shelf?

Maybe got 50-or-so books at home tops.

I hoard and reread. I use and abuse them. I only give away books I won't read again.

Triple your number and I'd say that's close.

Space considerations limit my book collection. I'd estimate somewhere between 150-200 on my bookshelf. Most are immaculate, because I'm very careful when I read a book; I also don't really have anyone to trade with.

My e-book collection has become pretty massive. I'll never read them all. Thanks, internet!

Probably somewhere close to a hundred physical books, plus at least a few dozen ebooks.

Nowhere near as much as I want, but limited space limits me. :(

Are you talking all books? Or just fiction/entertainment books?
My fiction books add up to about 20 altogether.
My text/reference/study library is about 350 books.
I currently have no ebooks, as I read and delete.

I have hundreds of books, though I probably haven't read a quarter of them.

Of the ones I have, I'd say at least half were used when I got them. I live with them and carry them with me. I even read them in the tub. I'm hard on them.

That's too bad, you can never have enough books.

Fiction and nonfiction. Is your text/ref/study library for work or just things that interest you?

That's like owning a classic car and never driving it. Bad Fish.:)

At least a couple of thousand. I have bookshelves in every room in my house, including the bathrooms.

I've kept all my University texts. God knows, I paid enough for them!
Plus I have several books on animal husbandry for the farm.
Bonsai books, cook books, astronomy references, autobiographies and biographies make up the rest.

Sounds pretty varied. In relation to science, I read online articles or buy magazines. I like news related to gene research and general medical research.

Do you raise sheep? Cattle? Chickens?

I own very few cook books. 2 or 3. For the most part I look up recipes online if I need one. Most of my day to day dishes are simple.

Your old text books from the online medical transcription classes don't count. Neither does your first edition Turner Diaries.

The astronomy books cover many different subjects. They range from Steven Hawkings fluff to books on star charts (for those nights when I sit outside with the telescope).
I have a few texts on genetics - my family has a few autoimmune disorders.

We have sheep and cattle, raised for meat. Recently sold about half the sheep, so we're down to about 100 there, and the yearling cattle will all go in the next month, leaving me with about 50 heifers and the same number of newborns.
No chickens - I live in an area with many farmlets within 50km, so I go to them to get eggs, chicken, farmed salmon and trout, and a lot of veg. And wine... there are 15 vineyards within the same radius :)

Every year I pick a new country to learn their cuisine, so I have one or two cookbooks from about 24 countries now.

And I have biographies ranging from Churchill to Mao to Greer. Varied interests there.

I don't read much on astronomy, I think I may have a fluffy Hawking's book to read somewhere.

It's amazing the advancements in treatments they've made through gene research, in just the past few years. Yes, I have a few of those in my family.

That sounds like farm country here, swapping. Nothing like farm fresh vegetables! I had a retired relative that had cows and chickens, smaller number than yours, enough for her needs and swapping.

I'm sure your family appreciates the variety in cuisine. I have a friend that is always trying out new recipes.

I have a lady friend who loves biographies, when I go to book fairs, I always pick her some up.

that's me, as well. i keep the worthy ones, and give away the shi'ite.

have a little over 500, give or take

What kind of stuff do you read?

mostly fiction, mostly american fiction, mostly stuff from 1920-ish to 1980's.
i don't really count my architecture texts and coffee table books, which are probably another 50 or so.

usually if i like an author, i'll pick up several other books by them and read them all, eventually.
love graham greene, hemingway, vonnegut, waugh, wharton, cather. some russian authors i like, but not consistently. latin american authors have ben sorta hit or miss. starting to get into some japanese authors lately.

What sane person doesn't like Vonnegut?

Japanese, try the book Hagakure. What Japanese authors do you like? I have been wanting to read Nishida.

read "battle royale" by takami, which was (allegedly) the original work that the 'hunger games' series was based on.
currently reading a book by ishiguro, it's pretty good so far. murakami is probably the most popular japanese author right now, i'll have to give a few of his books a turn.

The Takami book sounds interesting, I may check that out. Do you think it's similar to Hunger Games?
