Who do ya miss?

Come on ol' timers and all ya Gurus...who do you miss that doesn't post here anymore or at least not very often?

I'll start...

Jane T. Rolly, first and foremost..., I know she is on sabbatical to Europe and the Sub-Saharan desert and will probably return, but damn, I miss her! I didn't think souls that sweet or kind still existed, until I met her.

Golden...where the hell is he? Intelligent, funny, always something interesting to say...damn, I miss him too!

Eve of Destruction...I was almost willing to bid on her property, just to meet her. Unfortunately, she only likes men half my age(or younger?). Still, she has always been a breath of fresh air and definitely a kindred spirit.

BossieAussie...someone I almost never agreed with, but still an exceptionally nice person. Where did she go?

Slut_boy...I guess he still posts occasionally but what happened? He used to be a regular! His posts were/are always insightful, articulate and carefully thought out. He and I had our have had our disagreements, but I really respect him.

Havocman...what can I say? Is his absence just temporary? I certainly hope so...

I know I've missed a few obvious others...You all fill in the blanks...

Havocman is very much still with us (thank-god) Just go to the How to Board or the Role Playing Board and you will see his wit and Intelligence

Golden is working extremly hard on his own Sports Website and misses everyone immensly

Bossie Aussie is a fake, that is actually a 16 year old very bored girl from Oregon. She managed to break many hearts along the way.

Ravenloft will probably be back within the month.

Slut_Boy still pops in from time to time.

I miss Renee the most. She was one of the nicest sweetest people that ever walked the Board. Renee if you see this please come back.

Those were all very good posters, but for every person who's wandered away from the board, 3 or 4 interesting people have stumbled onto it. It's inevitable - I myself don't visit the same sites I did 4 or 5 months ago (except for this one, for obvious reasons, lol). This is why it's so incredibly flattering that people like DCL, Lasher, hullo_nurse, Flagg, Xander, Endlessly, *Eve*, and so many more that I can't even list here have chosen to hang out here after all these months. When I talk to other sites and here about the turnovers they experience, and then look at the core group of intelligent, fun people who've stuck with us, it awes me.

We need to be wary of falling into the "good old days" trap, because romanticizing the past keeps us from enjoying the present. Go back and read old threads... you'll find stupid arguments, trolls, lame posts, "flirt-a-thons", and all the things that everyone claims are making the board "not what it used to be". Nothing's changed, except our own perceptions.

So yeah, sure, I'm sad when people drift away, but my pleasure at meeting relative newcomers like Carl East, Earthgoddess, Lovely Latina, and all the other vibrant and new and intelligent and worthwhile posters that arrive here every single day.

Your point's well taken Laurel. I haven't noticed any glaring changes in what goes on now on the board versus "the good ol' days". There was a thankly very brief period a couple of months ago when I felt an element of "rudeness" was becoming pervasive, but it didn't last.

Anyway, my intent here wasn't reopen any old wounds or compare the present with the past. I simply wondered who else might occasionally reflect on missing friends and who they were.

As one who wanders onto and off of the board as a very irregular life style allows, I was extremely interested in Nicole's response. There are so many threads that I never get to read, it is very hard sometimes to keep track of people and events.

Jeff, I really had no idea and am truly sorry if I resurfaced any painful memories.

I miss Eve of Destruction too, she was my twin, and she was very funny, Ravenloft was funny too.

Carl and Gil, you guys almost brought tears to my eyes, seriously! I had no idea anyone missed me. Hey, Gil, I just saw an amateur production of Annie. Wanna hear my rendition of "It's A Hard-Cock Life For Us"?

I have been busy with life, actually. Planning a family vacation which includes four cities, a car, and two boys under the age of seven can be challenging and time consuming. Plus I got volunteered to be in charge of one aspect of the big Fall Festival at my kids' school. Oh, joy. When the teacher asks you face to face, it's hard to refuse.

My novel is back on track, even though due to a power surge I lost a couple pages of new stuff yesterday. (What a pain in the ass to try and rewrite something from memory!) Still, "first draft" probably won't be finished for another three weeks. Then comes the tedious but necessary revision.

As to whom I miss, I wonder where Wordmage disappeared to. I also miss Golden, Eve of Destruction, Felix, Ravenloft, and Fallen.
