White Guilt

Why should there be any guilt? It appears the dark-skinned man who was armed with a shotgun has just been shot by a man with a pistol. From looking at the picture, there is no way of telling much of anything else.

Dirty Harry.

Tanning beds? That's about money, not race.
In days gone by, being paler than pale was fashionable. In Ye Olde England, most folks hadn't even seen a black person and it wasn't something they thought about unless discussion turned to the colonies. Pale skin was a statement that you could afford not to work. Most jobs were outside, only ladies of leisure could afford to stay indoors, pale skin was a status symbol.
After foreign holidays became the thing, having a tan was proof you could afford to go lounge on a beach. You had time to lie about, doing nothing productive, just getting that golden glow. That's why it has to be all over. T-Shirt tanlines have never been cool. That and the UV mood boost can be addictive.

I apologize for posting an immediate knee "jerk" response. We all have our instincts.

It's an interesting topic though. Wealth and fashion. Foot binding, high heels, whiter than white t-shirts and trainers, designer labels, manicures, etc. So much of fashion is about displaying wealth and showing that you don't need to be do physical labour.

Weight is another one, generally. Weight (within reason) is admired when food is in short supply, but when there's a glut of food being thin is in.

Dirty Harry.

I repeat, how can you know anything about what happened from looking at one photo? The man who held the shotgun might have been a maniac who just shot up what appears to be a bank. Or he might have been a cop who was gunned down by two maniacs.

You can't, but I've seen the film.....
