Trump is going for re-negotiation of NAFTA. Fine. But here's the Mexican response.

Mexico on NAFTA

A quote;

“We are a sovereign nation and nothing can come above the interests of Mexico and the Mexicans.” he said. “Any agreement that is proposed that infringes or endangers Mexico’s social and economic interests and which harm the dignity of our nation will be unacceptable.”

Apparently it's 'unacceptable' to Mexico for President Trump to put the social and economic interests of the American public above those of Mexico.

You just can't make this shit up.

Makes you long for the days when Obama occupied the White House. Mexico didn't have to worry about shit like that then.

I wonder if he has any plans for Canada, too.
Trump didn't talk much (at all?) about renegotiating with Canada.
I guess the NAFTA situation with them is all good?

I'm not sure what Trump can do about NAFTA. Unlike TPP, NAFTA was formally approved by the Senate under Clinton.
But Trump will try, and he's not concerned with just Mexico.

And why wouldn't Mexico say that? It mirrors President Trump's "America First".

Trade agreements are about win/win negotiations in which BOTH countries do the best for their own peoples. Trade agreements which are in the interests of one country and bad for the other won't last.

Ish is in Busybody mode right now. He usually isn't this obtuse.

That's different. Trump is a white guy, we'll, kind of.

ON Monday, Chump sent his main economic advisor to brief our Cabinet, regarding the reality of the "NAFTA reset". That reality IS, that our two economies are so entwined, that unilateral punitive posture will hurt the US as much as Canada. ;)

Are there any oil or Gas reserves in canada or alaska that could be piped south?

For shits and giggles, I clicked on Ish's link. It takes me to a fucking subscription page.

Former (Conservative) Canadian Prime Minister Brian Mulroney is advising the current (Liberal) Government on how to manage NAFTA with the Trump Administration.

Mulroney and his wife were/are pals with the Reagans and Baker.

At the time, Canadians hated Mulroney over NAFTA, which has proven to be one of the best bilateral trade deals ever negotiated between two trading partners.

35 US States have a Canadian Province as its largest trading partner, for example.

It's the largest-ever trading relationship in the world.
