Which Story Is Not True?

And people seemed to like it - so let's try it again...

Though these 4 stories I'm about to relate seem unbelievable, three of them were reported in reputable news sources. See whether you can spot the one that is made up.

(For those of you who read this in Maxim, please don't give away the answer.)

1) Two men were arrested in Calcutta for selling a "miracle drug" that they claimed would cure AIDS, cancer, and tuberculosis. The concoction, which they sold for 600 rupees (about $12), was actually a mixture of cow urine and feces.

2) A man taking part in a Civil War reenactment in Georgia shot and killed two people after loading his rifle with real bullets. Police said the man has a picture of General Stonewall Jackson tattooed on his chest. The "Union soldiers" he killed were both - ooops! - from Tennessee.

3) More than 400 French sheep leapt to their deaths after being chased to the edge of a cliff by wolves. Lacking the manpower or know-how to remove 20 tons of decomposing carcasses, French officials warned people in surrounding towns that their water supply would likely be contaminated by the rotting metaphors.

4) Over a three-day period, doctors in Kabul circumcised boys between the ages of two and 11 at the rate of up to 100 a day. As the children lined up to receive a local anesthetic, a band played traditional Afghan party tunes. The kids, who hobbled away in white nappies, also received complimentary gift bags.

Again - three of these stories are true. One isn't. Which one do you think is made up? And why, if you care to say?

I loved it when you did this before. I do read Maxim, but haven't for quite a while, so I promise you, I don't know the answer.

I choose #4. I just can't think of a mass circumcision being held like that. Even in the stone age. Complimentary gift bags of what? The aforementioned cow urine and feces?

I do believe that two men, for whatever reason would mix together urine and feces and call it a miracle cure. I do believe that is alive and well on rodeo drive. It cures wrinkles though there. It sells for slightly more. About $120 for a 3cc syringe. (how many rupees is that?)

I can see a man shooting another in a reenactment. Some reenactments should come with a disclaimer though. "Don't try this at home”. Usually someone in the south dies after you hear the words, "Looky here boys and watch this!"

Sheep, buffalo. What's the difference. They'll jump if forced. It's that flight or fight thing. They know they can't fight wolves, so jump. You mean they don’t have a bulldozer in France?

I wanted to chose the mass destruction of little boys but it seemed just to phoney with the gift bags and nothing is ever stranger than the truth.

I vote for #3, the French sheep. Although some French might smell like rotting sheep, I think their social structure is just as advanced as ours and they would not allow the destruction of water resources any more than we would.

I must say I'm concerened with #4. Do Muslims circumcise?

I think Afghans would be aghast at circumcision, since it's a Jewish tradition. I'll vote for #4, as well.

Beat me to it. My vote is for 4, also.

Though it seems that the more thought one puts into this, the more likely you are to be wrong.

So I call #1 as a backup answer, since it sounds the most likely to be true.

A little research indicates that Muslims DO circumcise but I don't know about the "Big Party" aspect...I'm going a definite #3.

OK - the only made up story was #2 - about the guy killing 2 people during a Civil War Reenactment. Interestingly that one got the least # of votes here. The other 3 were true.

I would just like to say that I am horribly amused by the term circumcism...I get a mental picture of something between an exorcism and circumsicion where young boys are standing there in their spartan glory while a priest attempts to exorcise their foreskin. It's a funny picture...wish you could see it.
