Hi all,
I hope I am posting in the right section.

In the story, I'm writing I am wanting to add when the characters met, I'm not sure whether to us

1 year or twelve months.

The sentence is

They had been together for one year/twelve months, after meeting at a local fetish expo, where they kept passing one another at the same stands and displays.

I"m not sure which sounds best.

Any helpful feedback is appreciated

Thank you :D

1) this question would get a more focused response in the Author's Hangout.

2) If the anniversary of their meeting is important to your story, use "one year" If the progression of their relationship is important to the story -- i.e. you're going to resort to flashbacks of seminal events in that year/twelve months -- use the "twelve months" terminology.

3) Either term will work, but the context of the surrounding story should tell you which imparts the tone you want for your story.

I personally dislike numbers as descriptors. But if you wish to reference a specific amount of time consider writing the sentence in a more active state.

Tom couldn't believe a whole year had passed since meeting...

I'm sorry for the delay in replying.

Thank you both for your thoughts and input.
It's greatly appreciated 😊

I would write, "They'd been together a year," and go on with the story. Flashbacks (if any) could refer to "(X or a few) months (ago or later)". Only specify numbers when they're important. We mostly don't think in numbers, rather as 'many' or 'a few' or 'some' or 'zillions'. We are imprecise.
