since we almost never discuss politics here, i thought this might be an interesting discussion. in your view, which of these are most likely reactions to the death of bin laden?

if this is news to you, have a look here (NYT) or if you prefer, here (fox).

about some of the poll options: i recently watched munich, if that helps explain.

I'm hoping some measure of relief is brought to those who lost loved ones as a result of Osama's direct involvement in al Qaeda. But....I think plans were put into place long ago to insure the organization's continuation even with him gone. As someone on another board pointed out, this is only one head of the hydra.

i'm not convinced that such plans will survive contact with reality, to be honest. it appears that terrorist cells really only work due to the chemistry and dynamics of the cell members. there simply can't be that many people of sufficient charisma, leadership & stature ready to fill the void.

The poll only allows for one vote, when most of that list is what's actually going to happen.

NM: you did it wrong, dude: this one had square checkboxes, meaning multiple guess. :>

Now you tell me!;):D:D Why didn't you just put "all the above"? :D

You're not alone, Nip. When I saw that people had made multiple choices, I wondered how they'd done it. Oh well, too late to add to my answer now.

*le sigh*

but the celebration seemed excess. That they are being broadcast around the world seems like it will ensure increased hatred of the US by some extremists. I know I'm not saying anything new, but I must say I'm very worried about what may happen next.

My thoughts exactly! We all want to bitch, whine, and cringe when we see our enemies burning our flag and desecrating our fallen soldiers bodies. What MOST people fail to realize is that they are no better than our enemies when it comes to the revelry over a fallen foe. Americans are supposed to be better than that, are we not?

erika: because to me, that answer seems a bit cynical. but then again, maybe i'm just an optimist.
