Which is more overdone?

I was listening to "uptown girl" the other day, and I was thinking "This is way overdone." Then I realized that the other way around is over done too. Which is *MORE* cliche, in your mind?

I think the rich man with lower class woman is more common (hell I'm guilty of it myself).

However, I think the other stereotype really is out there quite a bit too, but to a lesser degree.

I haven't researched, but I had the impression there are more " down and dirty woman in the muck with the bum" type stories. I think they are more taboo, thus more interesting. The whole pygmalion myth thing glorifies women " marrying up", so its too respectable to be that interesting erotically.

I think I just don't think of the french maid as lower class. There's a couple of Loving Wives stories where the wife , on a dare from hubby screws these really gross smely bums- that's more what I was thinking of . Its not that sexy. depends if "overdone" is common, or one was enough. I'll read more "maid" stories if well written with a twist ( preferrably of lemon, with a gin wrapper).

There are quite a few "White woman captured by [natives] and taught what a big dong feels like" stories. (Substitute your own word for [natives] be it 18/19C Red Indians, 18/19C Africans, 18/19C Aborigines, or even 16C pirates or 14C Vikings).

Yes, I know 14C Vikings is an anchronism but I was thinking of Dragonette's "Surrender" series.

In all of these, and many 21C inter-racial there is an assumption that one race is superior to another, and the evidence is usually expressed as wealth and/or education. The payback in the story is usually that the "inferior" elements are prodigiously sexually endowed.

I don't get your point. Are you saying you dislike those, so they are overdone, or that you would enjoy more?

Neither of the above. I was only pointing out that there are a lot more stories in the overall categories being discussed than at first sight. It was triggered by you saying that

my example was referring to the earlier post about rich guys and servants, the opposite half of Chicklet's original dichtomy. My rich woman example was limited to one series, so your other examples are valid.

some people would find the more conventional reassuring and confuse reassurring with interesting ( thats why Friends is still on TV). I suspect most Lit readers prefer seeing taboos shattered.
