I wasn't sure where this question should go, so I'm just posting it here.

I'm thinking about writing a story about "spirit sex", like sex between two women who are astral projecting. Can this still be put under "Lesbian Sex" category, or should it go into something else? It's not exactly "Non-human", but then again it is supernatural...so I dunno. Any suggestions?

Right! i keep for getting that the sci-fi section can ALSO be fantasy. but then again...it's not exactly elves and dwarves...i donm't know if it would fit there, either. PLUS, there's no sub-category for hetero vs. homo stories within other gategories, which in itself is kind of confusing. I mean, what if you have two guy vampires going at it? Does that still count as erotic horror, or will people flame you for not putting it in the gay section? *confused*

My one SF/Fantasy story has no elves or dwarves. And some F/F sex. Sort of.

Lesbian.

Generally speaking (and from my own observations), those who like sci-fi/fantasy stories know that such stories sometimes end up in other categories, so they tend to look in other categories for them as well as in the sci-fi/fantasy section. Those looking for lesbian stories, however, tend to stick with just the lesbian category. So the lesbian category is the one most likely to get you both readers.

Well, the HORROR section is a little different. Thanks to Anne Rice, readers seem to expect homoeroticism in horror and most especially in vampire stories. Don't get me wrong, there are some homoerotic stories in the Sci-fi/Fantasy section as well, but a lot less than in horror. You might get flamed for not putting your lesbians in the gay section by the Sci-fi/fantasy folk--but the horror folk won't even blink, if the story is a nice, dark horror tale, that is.

I would think non human, but you should ask what your audience is? Who are you writing the story for. If it is the F/F relationship in the story that is the main focus go lesbian. If the main focus is the supernatural aspect, then go nonhuman.
In sci-fi/fan, you could make it a bit more broad and would fit in generally, but you may lose some of your audience since it probably wouldn't be where they would look for it.
But that's just my opinion. It does sound like a good story line. :)

It sounds like the focus of the sex would be F/F, and while they're projecting, I'd imagine that the actual sex acts won't be that different than those possible in real life?

I'm sure Lesbian would be fine. Sci-Fi would be ok too. Personally I consider Astral Projection to be sciece fiction.

Submit it under Lesbian Sex perhaps? If the Ed has different ideas then it'll be placed by them. I had a similar query with a possible Group or BDSM story. I submitted under group with a note that the Ed could decide between the two possibles, or indeed any other category. It went into BDSM.

IMO, astral projection isn't science fiction. I would class the practice as spiritual.

Good luck with it wherever the piece ends up. :)

Throw in a box of chocolates and put it in Romance. *snickers*

The categories work in a strange way here. You get the main subdivisions MM, FF, MF and MMMFFF etc, and then the particular fantasies. When writing an MF married story where the husband dresses in his wife's clothes - don't put it in Loving Wives or Erotic Couplings.

Similarly, the first time she submits to the lash of her Master is probably best somewhere else than First Time.

My only advice is a bit pragmatic. Write your story and do all those tedious editing bits, then get a friend, or friends, to read it. Their feeling about whether it 'feels' lesbian or sci-fi/fantasy is worth its weight in gold.

The categories - like tags - help to guide readers.

Yes, that's what I've been doind lately. That's why I haven't released the next chapter of Words Made Flesh; I've been having some friends read it and give me feedback first.

It's funny; before I just wrote for a couple of friends and didn't care about grammer and such. Now I'm taking my time in order to get it just right before submitting it to potentially thousands of people.
