Damnit, I was going to relax outside this afternoon and do some writing. Got everything set up just so and went to turn on the laptop, and,

NOTHING

The damn thing won't even boot. It's powering up, cycles for a bit, then shuts back down. I know it has got to be something with the O.S. and of course it's Windows Me. (And of course I picked up the computer used so it didn't come with the disks. :( So now of course I will be visiting my local computer repair place tomorrow, when I should be writing, and getting the damned thing fixed. (My wife of course heard the cursng and figured out it was the laptop. She then did the prudent thing and hid all hammers.)

Thank god I also have my main system.

She hid the hammers? But hammers fix stuff! That's just not right. ;)

When it cycles off is it getting through the BIOS and loading windows? Or does it not get to windows at all?

It wasn't even getting to any screen. Thankfully it just got fixed. :nana:
In the act of moving it from the bed to the table beside the main computer it was set down just a touch harder than usual. (So I'm a tad unhappy with it. It's also called an Army Field Adjustment. ) Would you believe the damned thing started right up. It appears it must have a loose connection, which will be sought out and repaired tomorrow.

And now you know where the term "Boot Up" really comes from. Oh , sure some will tell you it's shortened from "Pulling itself up by it's boot straps", but I klnow it really comes from giving it a good swift kick in the ass to get it moving. ;)

You have that right. And people wonder why I want to get my hands on one of the new Laptops the Military uses. Armored so it can withstand the abuse I know it's going to get. :D

Oh, joy! A techy thread at last!

Hey, Dran? Any idea where I can go to correct a system 32 ntoskrl.exe file without having to use an XP disk? I only get it once every second boot-up, but have to do a hard boot in order to get out of it; meaning it takes me two tries to access my desktop.

P.S. Did I mention how sexy you are?

Please was all you had to say.

Lemme see what I can find and I'll email the file to you. :)

OK that file is the NT kernal. In order to replace it I need to know exactly what version of XP you are running. Is it XP Home edition? XP Proffesional? XP Corperate?

And what were you trying to change when you lost it?

It is professional! (Just like you, you sexy dragon, you.) ;)

The only change made prior to the error was a different monitor. My other one shorted out on me, and then all a sudden, there is was.. highlighted against a black screen as if to further torment me... : The following file is corrupt or missing. Windows needs this file in order to continue. Please install this file.

... But it only does it once every second boot.

The Kernal makes good chicken, but he sure sucks at staying inside my computer!

P.S. Pwetty pwease? ;)
