As I near completion on my latest story, I find I am distracted by a dilemma, where to post it.

The tale in question is a very sad love story with very little sex. In truth, there is but a mere paragraph and that only talks about the two protagonists making love, not the play by play descriptions the readers love so much.

So, where to post it.

I have heard of stories being posted in non-erotic and then falling off the face of the site. This is a very personal story for me and I would very much like it to be read. I would like to post it under romance, it is a love story, but I would hate to have people get all pissed off if they take the time to read it (>7500 words) and then not get what they came for.

Any opinions?

Thanks,
Emmay!!!!!

If the focus is on romance rather than on the absence of sex, then I think you should post it on Romance. To avoid pissing people off and getting 1-voted all the time, you could write in the desription of the story that there is very little sex in it.

If there is no intended arousal factor, put it in non-erotic. Otherwise you'll run the risk of your work bombed because you "lied" to the public by claiming it was an erotic tale when it wasn't.

another option is to put an Author's Note at the top of the story explain to your readers the story contains no sex

when you submit the story, add a note to Laurel (there is a webmaster box to do this in the submission form) letting her know the Author's Note exists at the top of your story.

good luck :)

just some thoughts on pros and cons to watch:

-if you're dependant on the votes, understand that readers (in general) come here to the non-erotic categories for, obviously, erotic reads. there will be disappointment if they are not forewarned.

-are you giving up your own principles when you choose a category not acceptable to yourself?

-do you write to 'cater to your audience'?

-if you simply use the description and/or keyword areas to state the story is 'non-erotic' then be aware some readers will still slip through to your story without realising it's non-erotic.

only my thoughts and opinions dear :)

Thank you for the feedback. I also recieved a few PM's on the matter, so thanks to those folks as well!!!!:)

I think I am going to go with the disclaimer at the top and post it under 'Romance'.

I will let you know how it works out!!!!

Good for you, MAT!
And if you DO get some negative feedback by some disappointed off-jerkers, just ignore them.

If you try to please everyone, you'll never succeed, cause people have so many different opinions.
