"The village store in Kivalina, 80 miles up the Arctic Coast from Kotzebue, stocked up on $20s and $100s so residents could cash their Alaska Permanent Fund dividends starting this week.

But last week, $189,000 went missing from the store's safe -- an unusual crime in a village built on sand and surrounded by sea, tundra and a lagoon with no road out and almost nowhere to spend the money -- except at the store itself."

Story featuring these fucking morons.......

oops, scrap that, i should have read the article first

They probably bought drugs or buried it.

They found most of it.

No offense intended but why would anyone choose to build a town there? It seems prone to flooding and other natural disasters.

Because that's all they know? Generations before them were there...and it's hard to escape the lifestyle.

Like NOLA?

Yep. It should have been built up river a bit. Kinda big now to just up and move it.

True but if my house was destroyed twice I'd be building somewhere safer. Once I can understand as an act of God but a second time? I didn't learn a damn thing.
