Where should I respond?

My first story just posted and one of the comments is a question. I would like to answer; however, I am left wondering where.

Is it customary to answer comments in the comments section, on my profile, at the beginning of the next chapter, or is it such that there is no "customary."

Any suggestions?

If the response might be of interest to the people who read the story, it's certainly possible to add a comment of your own in the "Comments" box at the end of the story. But I'd keep it short -- just a sentence or two. The best response may simply be: "Comment noted."
