Where should I put it?

Can anyone tell me what happens when you write a story that starts off in one category, lets say ‘Romance’ but contains other elements, such as ‘First Time’ or ‘Non Consent’?

The reason I ask is that I am in the middle of writing a story about two lovers in ancient Egypt. The two lovers turning out to be half brother and sister, a relationship, which I am led to believe was quite the norm, particularly between the ruling classes of those days, and was in no way considered incestuous.

There is also an element of BDSM, due to the troubled times, when one of the lovers gets captured and enslaved.

My problem is…which category should I post it under? Any suggestions, (and I’m already sorry I asked) would be appreciated.

I'd recommend putting it into the category you expect readers to find the most objectionable. For instance, a reader looking for a sweet romance may be upset at finding BDSM elements in a "romance" story, but the other way around is probably okay.

Yeah, if you put it in the category that you expect readers to find most objectionable, you guarantee yourself more feedback ... (of course, it might not all be positive feedback ;) )

Although Romance readers tend not to be a vitriolic lot, on the whole.

Cherrie,

Go for the category with the biggest impact in the story and make sure you mention the other elements so readers are warned beforehand.

:)

If you want a lot of reads and votes, stick it in Incest. If you want reasoned comment, stick it in novels. If you want vitriolic bad grammar hurled at you, stick it in BDSM.

Read it into a voice file and put it in the audio category. That way you don't need to decide.

Also, the audio stories get a lot of hits.
