...or we can apply those energies toward making today better.
I vote for the latter.
Nice to see you again, gauche.![]()
I agree and I agree.
But was it truly that much better back in the day? In the thread gauche linked WildSweetOne complimented him and The Earl on their polite disagreement and hoped others learned from it, which suggests some...disharmony? It may have been far more polite, I wasn't here. Memory has a way of smoothing the spikes and ridges of the past, but I wonder if most of the 2002-2004s recall Lit as being more civil back when. Not stirring, just curious.
There was a good share of disagreement... political threads haven't changed much in their intensity. There were people prepared to put a lot of work into making their point, Colly, Shang and others. Pure and Amicus rarely saw eye-to-eye. Raphy has happy to take a contrary position... and stick with his belief. Perdita called as she saw it. It strikes me there was more writing discussion... but that might just be wishful thinking. A lot of small competitions *shrug*
Not me. There were good days, there were average days, there were annoying days and there were manure spewing catastrophucking days. There were civil people, and there were random blurters and flamethrowers and trolls too.I agree and I agree.

Like I said just yesterday, it's easy to remember the good old days. And forget they were also mixed with a whole lot of bad ones.
Of course, I miss some old members who (mostly) contributed to the good part. But it would be presumptios of me to say that the forum as a whole was a better place, just because MY homies were the ones doing that. There are new homies now, and they're not chopped liver either.
Some while ago I mentioned to The (Earl) an arguement we had about humour. It was the first time we'd conversed at Lit. and was 5 years ago. He said he couldn't remember.
I've been perusing old threads that I contributed to (by looking at 'List subscriptions' in user control panel) and found the actual thread. Similies - fill in the blank. So there's that. I'm linking it so that The can see.
Another reason I'm linking it is as proof positive, undeniable, indefatigable that the AH was a much nicer place in the old days.
Remember WildSweetOne? Svenska? Maths? Openthighs Sarah? SMUK? Uther Pendragon? B. Keeney? Gabriel Lee? Octavian? Muffie? Thesandman? JFinn? DVS?
Mine and The's arguement begins on page three, and will make Roxleby positively green with envy at the courteous, civil and above all 'gentlemanly' conducting of quite a torrid debate.
IWSO and her many and varied 'writerly' threads and excercises.
I alsothe past and my 'youth'.
My AH wish: a special stickie thread, just for me, where I capture and place under house arrest all of my favorite people here. You'd be free to come and go as necessary, but never without saying good-bye and promising to return.
I left my home yesterday; drove away from it for good and ever, the place where I'd spent the best years of my life; the place where I learned to love and be loved. My tolerance for loss is at at all-time low. I need my AH friends here, so I can know that no matter where I happen to be (tonight it's at a hotel near Daytona) I can click open the Authors Hangout and find you - Gauche - and the others who have become dear to me.
I want you here; I need your help to chase away this loss of love; this grief.
Please stay.

MathGirl did the honors... until she retired. It was a kind of ritual... if anyone asked The Question we all stood whistling with our hands in our pockets till MathGirl turned up. She had a sidekick DurtGirl... but you really don't want to go there.
MG's wild dictionaries would be worth digging out![]()

Yes, you're quite right but mood and timing counts for a lot too. The mood of the first person to answer and the timing of putting the question.
My advice to noobs. Don't ask anything until you're sure America is asleep.
That way, even if you get razzed it will be by cultured and sophisticated Asian/European/oceanic wits and I guarantee you won't feel a thing.
We may not be overly cultured, but we are at least nice *chuckle*My AH wish: a special stickie thread, just for me, where I capture and place under house arrest all of my favorite people here. You'd be free to come and go as necessary, but never without saying good-bye and promising to return.

Don't mourn the past. Improve the fucking future.
