Where have all the editors gone?

The hunt is on. I've look down the editors list, and tried to contact a few, but there was no response. I then tried looking in the Editors forum, but no one was there to respond.

I'm wondering... have all the editors taken an extended leave of absence, or are they just hiding somewhere?

I imagine quite a few of those with kids might be extra busy with summer vacation. I have an editor for my on-going project and I found him on the Editor's forum. I posted just the opening paragraphs to my story along with my asking if anyone was interested. Maybe give your request a couple days?

I'll echo what Cerise said. Lots of us have children, previous engagement and the best one....well we're way over our head; working our butt off already. Summer is a very busy period for editors, writers are more prolific and it's a manna for the editors who are working overtime to satisfy everyone.

Be patient, look through the list again....start at the top and forget the ones who haven't updated their profiles in the last month or so, they're either too busy, already editing or on holidays or real life has caught up with them.

Missing Editors

Thanks for the quick reply. Unfortunately it's been two weeks already since I started emailing some of the editors. I kept my constraints to those active in the past three months, and contacted about eight so far.

Anyone have any specific editor recommendation they could refer me to? I've got a short romantic story (first meeting between two who met online). I'm looking for someone to help me with proofreading as well as some flow and development.

Thanks

Oh the irony...

It just figures that after all the waiting and finally making a post to find more help, that within minutes, I'd get a response.

Thanks ladies for your prompt responses.

two weeks?

im in need of an editotor for a longish story that won't seem to get out of my hair
i hear you

I have never had any success with volunteer editors except when I already knew the editor. Others may have had different experiences, but it certainly didn't work for me. What continues to be both successful and rewarding is trading editing favors with other authors. So my suggestion is to make an "I'll edit yours if you edit mine" post either on its own or in response to someone else's request for an editor. And don't give up if that doesn't work the first time either- 'editing' means different things to different writers, so it may take a few attempts before you find someone with whom you work well.
