My 30+ year best friend, now in Oz, sent me a link to "The World's Smallest Political Quiz," which seems to have gained a fair amount of respect from various places. My result:

The political group that
agrees with you most is...

LIBERTARIAN
LIBERTARIANS support maximum liberty in both personal and economic matters. They advocate a much smaller government; one that is limited to protecting individuals from coercion and violence. Libertarians tend to embrace individual responsibility, oppose government bureaucracy and taxes, promote private charity, tolerate diverse lifestyles, support the free market, and defend civil liberties.

The RED DOT on the Chart shows where you fit on the political map.

Your PERSONAL issues Score is 90%.
Your ECONOMIC issues Score is 80%.
(Please note: Scores falling on the Centrist border are counted as Centrist.)

Some selected quotes about this test...

"The Quiz has gained respect as a valid measure of a person's political leanings." -- The Washington Post, June 17, 2001

"[The World's Smallest Political Quiz] is proving a revelation in Britain and America. For many it has exposed their true political leanings for the first time." -- Abul Taher, The Sunday Times of London, (U.K.), October 24, 2004

"The World's Smallest Political Quiz stands ready to help you determine your political identity. Quick and relatively painless." -- USA Today, September 5, 2001

"Give this quiz a try. It's fun, and who knows, you may be surprised at what you find." -- Bill Mann, Politics on the Net

"The goal of the Quiz is to give a fast, fun, and accurate assessment of a person's overall political views, and to place those views on a new multi-spectrum 'political map' that is far more accurate, insightful, and diversified than older political guidelines (such as the 'left-right' line)." -- The Fraser Institute (Vancouver, Canada)

"The most concise and accurate political quiz out there." -- Suite University (www.Suite101.com)

"Many people find politics either too boring or too frustrating to tolerate in large doses. One possible cause for this estrangement is the linear nature of the established political spectrum. The left-versus-right system was inadequate to begin with. Political thought throughout history has never been so narrow as to be contained by such simplicity. The solution: the World's Smallest Political Quiz. This quiz features two sets of five questions. Each question tests the participant's idea of how much government is necessary. The results give a much clearer idea of where people stand as political thinkers than the old system. The entire political landscape could change for the better by taking one simple test." -- Maggie Ownbey, L.A. Valley Star, November 16, 2005

"The World's Smallest Political Quiz is savvy and willing to tell you the truth." -- YAHOO! Magazine

"[An] irresistible political quiz. Find out why it's so popular." -- Channel 7 NBC-TV (San Diego), July 8, 2004.

"World's Smallest Political Quiz is self-explanatory; it's a small quiz that identifies your political views. It's a quick and easy little quiz and it'll help you see where you stand in your nation's political views." -- "Best and Coolest Sites Around," AskMen.com

"I absolutely love your political quiz. I use it to help students understand their own political stances and the political climate of the United States. I have found the quiz to be amazingly accurate and an invaluable tool for my political philosophy courses." -- Joel W. Cade (Philosophy Instructor, Loyola University, Chicago)

"If you're not sure quite where you stand in the political mix... head on over to the self-proclaimed World's Smallest Political Quiz. [The] quiz just might be the easiest and most painless way ever to determine what your philosophy is. In no time at all you'll have a pretty valid indicator of whether you're liberal, conservative, centrist, libertarian or authoritarian." -- Kevin Saylor, The Knoxville News-Sentinel (Tennessee), January 23, 2004

"If you are fed up with political labels, then take the world's smallest political quiz to uncover your true political identity." -- Smart Computing

"You should definitely take the World's Smallest Political Quiz to find out where you fall on the political spectrum -- you might be surprised!" -- James W. Moore (Professor of Music, Campbellsville University, Kentucky)

"I have been using the Quiz in my American Government class for about five years. Students usually find it to be an eye-opener." -- Sean D. Foreman, Ph.D. (Professor, Union Institute & University, North Miami, Florida)

So where do you fit politically? (At least according to this quiz, which I felt gave a surprisingly accurate reflection of my political beliefs...)

If I recall correctly, it's a Libertarian site, meant to help convince the masses that we're all Libertarians.

According to that, I'm Libertarian but more to the right than you are.

FWIW, I scored as a Centrist. But I think I'm really further left.

Frankly, I thought it had far too few questions to render a reasonable judgment. But it was a fun little diversion.

Yes, it is a libertarian site. I don't think it is intended to convince everyone that they're libertarian, but more to show that libertarian views aren't all that crazy. The wording is blatantly skewed towards libertarian views though.

I'm Libertarian, but more to the left. So wierd to say that.

Try this one as well. It's a nice one, working on a multi-axis model. I believe that this has been posted here before, but I think it is good enough to merit another mention.

In my case, I am:

Economic Left/Right: -0.12
Social Libertarian/Authoritarian: -5.49

Which puts me center vis a vis left/right, and relatively deep into Libertarian/anarchism. Which is about right. I used to be more fiscally conservative, but have since modified those views.

I was a dead center centrist. Seriously, my big red dot was right in the middle. I noticed that this one is extremely skewed to the US political situation, too. IIRC, the second one that Homburg listed, that was posted before gives a broader view that pertains to international issues.

Today, at this minute I scored as a:

CENTRISTS espouse a "middle ground" regarding government

control of the economy and personal behavior. Depending on

the issue, they sometimes favor government intervention

and sometimes support individual freedom of choice.

Centrists pride themselves on keeping an open mind,

tend to oppose "political extremes," and emphasize what

they describe as "practical" solutions to problems.

:rose:

Ah, worried, I see.
Not at all. Actually, I did take it. I was rather appalled that it only had six questions. And then it told me I was extremely conservative. So, yeah. Not trusting that shit. It's like that test we took in my Sex & Gender class a couple of weeks ago, the one that told me I'm prejudiced against gay people. Riiiiiight.

Oh, I was talking about the political compass one. It's more useful.

Bwahahahah.

According to this test, I'm conservative. This would make me a self-hating conservative then.

My dot was right in the middle too. I think we need a draft, with other options. I'd like to see an army of young people picking up trash from the side of the road and around the lake. I'd like to see another 20,000 on border patrol. And 50,000 more in the peace corp. It wouldn't hurt anyone to serve for 2 years before college. Doing something, not just the military.

Liberal....pretty much to the left.

Just where I like to be :)
