Where do they do it?

I was talking with a RL friend and made the offhand comment that none of the sex in my stories takes place in a bed. (In retrospect, I do have one story -- my NonHuman "Ghouls ..." that does, but it's quite unusual for other reasons.)

Anyway, it got me wondering how many of us write our sex predominantly in locations other than the bedroom -- and why.

Most of us, I think, because sex in the bedroom has a planned, non-spontanteous implication to it.

I think there is more excitement in characters who are just too hot horny and uninhibited to wait for the bedroom.

Hmmmmm, Good question. As to an answer, maybe it's because that's what some of us find either interesting or a turn on of some kind. (As to why it's a turn on that would depend on the person doing the writing.)

The Rainy Day story was pretty much doomed to be outdoors.

My first one has every coupling taking place in a bed.

On the other hand, my teen lovers do it in cars, on the beach, in the woods, in the basement of the Methodist church on a couch, just anyplace. Beds, too, but usually half the fun is how they improvise.

My chain story has them ascend to the bedroom at a certain point.

It depends on the circumstances. I like realistic scenarios, and people do prefer privacy and comfort if they can get it, especially the first time with a new lover.

I usually use beds and bedrooms, although it's often one among several places they do it. Hotel rooms seem to crop up often, which isn't surprising as the Starwood chain calls mea 'Platinum Preferred Guest'.

The bed/bath combo is key.

Hmmm... This got me thinking. So I had to look.

Weekend in the Mountains: One Bath scene, one bed scene, one kitchen scene, a cabin and finally a hot spring.

After Midnight:On the bed but with with a demon.(?)

Day at the Beach: A new perspective: Both scenes on the beach.

Do You Still Love Me?: Ok, in the bed if you count him being there when he has the dream.

The Boat: On the forward deck, not even a padded mat.

Two Olympics stories: None on a bed.

The Striped Shirt: On the bed at the end, but with BDSM elements.

Thunder Beach: On the beach in a thunderstorm.

Anal Sex is for Buttholes: On the bed. Well sort of.

I think despite what we do to spice it up sometimes straight sex on the bed is just average. I think we all strive to create something truly uniquly erotic and a couple on the bed just doesn't do that without help from non-mainstream elements.

Just realized that one of my stories (the novel no less) has almost every sex scene between the leads take place in a bedroom. I admit to surprise. But then "the Hesperus" does too - not much choice on board a merchantman. Hmm ... everything in "Pope's Dairy" as well ...

I'm more conventional than I realized. I feel rather dissapointed. I think I've just got an elevator, a thicket, a glade, and various indoor rooms (although one is a dining hall with a full staff of servants in attendance).
