Where did you last sit down for a meal in a restaurant?

I struggle to find places that I can support where the wait time for, or the mere possiblity of, a table reasonable.

I happened on a little one-off diner that does breakfast and lunch only in an industrial park. Let's call it, Marvelous Marilyn's. On a Saturday morning they are not too crowded and doing a brisk business because the kitchen is on point. They turn and burn those tickets in an average of 6-9 minutes I learned as I chatted with the proprietress.

Standard diner options. Last week, I tested their competency with two over easy with bacon and nicely crisp hashbrowns. Good enough for me to repeat this week.

This week I went with the omelette cordon bleu. Stuffed with more ham and chicken than ai needed. Well executed, but I think I'll try something with some zing next time. Chiles are in season.

Last week, the small one went for your basic pancakes with scrambled and bacon. Supposed to be a child's meal, woulda fed a hungry trucker. This week she subbed for blueberries in the pancakes. We get a little wild out there at times.

Only have dined outside. The last time I had indoor dining was probably February and I don’t remember where or what I had.

There was a two or three week window in early June where restaurants around here were open for indoor dining, albiet at a diminished capacity, and with 12' distant seating. Before they closed things back up again. I had a grilled salmon. I believe in the rural areas of the state, things are looser and you can still dine in restaurants, with 12 foot spacing between tables, though.

In the ruralist of places, indoor seating has never really stopped. There were some places (mostly chains) that closed and/or did carry out. My favorite diner? They slapped up some plexiglass between booths and extended the spit shield on the salad bar. We went there for hash browns and chopped steak a few weeks ago. It was busy, but separated. They still remembered our names and had our drinks on the table before we sat down.

Our restaurants closed. Then some opened for take out. Finally they all opened, mostly with outdoor dining. If indoors, all tables are socially distanced and at half capacity (but are quite quiet).

Unfortunately the weather will be changing in a few weeks and a good 1/4-1/2 the restaurants are not going to make it, if this continues.

Ixtapa, Lynnwood. Probably had the Ixtapa burrito. Probably back in Feb.

Last time inside, it was February. Likely just something for lunch. Probably a salad or a taco.

Outside, with old friends, August 20. A great cheeseburger on a brioche bun with awesome crispy french fries. Only a beer would of made it better, but I had to go into the office after.

Wednesday. A small, rural pub in the middle of nowhere. Pigeon and black pudding burger... I tried it because it sounded so strange, but it was one of the best burgers I've ever eaten. Slightly let down by the lame salad, boring bun, and lack of interesting sauce. But the meat was good enough to forgive that.

A convention hotel restaurant in early March with a couple friends and a pilot who was eating alone so we invited them over. Seven days later, this was considered high risk behavior. No more inviting pilots...

Lunch yesterday. Local ramen place. Wasn't particularly crowded.

To me, restaurants are like Casinos.

We have one in town, but I have never been to it.
We have both here and most of them are aimed at tourists.
Having said that, we do have fast food at every Interstate exit...

My cooking is far and above theirs because it is to my tastes/desires.

That just might be the country mouse in me speaking.

Were I a city mouse, Wendy's might be the thing.

Last week, a diner type place up in Mackinac.

The menu was limited, as it seems they all are anymore, and everything had that packaged taste as if it just crawled off of the Sysco or GFS truck and straight onto the plate.

The restaurant situation up here was bleak before the Covid craze, it hasn’t improved.

I’ve had good and bad alligator, you have to get them young.

KFC, well, at least it’s the same everywhere, the Ray Kroc business model.

When I was over in Japan on biz. on the first day my hosts ordered Mickey D's for lunch. They were quite proud of themselves catering to the giajin. A Big Mac is a Big Mac no matter where you get it.

When I was asked if I enjoyed my lunch I replied, "Very much so but can we do Sushi/Shashimi tomorrow?"

Sunday, at a local joint that does beer, brunch, and burgers, according to the t-shirt uniform.

We did brunch. It's our regular thing if I'm not cooking.

It's inside seating, every other table, masks to be seated and then you're "eating" after that and don't require one.

I need to work on a good breakfast bread, like French toast or waffles. I'm just a better cook than J is. Then we'll stay home completely.

Al fresco dining counts, if that's the only way to support your locals.

Twice last week at local chain restaurants with the UK government's half price offer. I'll be back later this week at full price.

There’s a craft brew pub across from my business and they are fully covid compliant, so I have a beer with pizza delivered from my nearby pizzaria on the patio on thursdays before the weekly bike ride with a buddy.

And I’ve been to four or five other clean, known restaurant patios on dates, but only if the spacing is maxed out.

But I don’t enjoy it. Always watching the wait and kitchen staff for signs of slop.

Local spot with lots of outdoor covered dining, bar and tables. Had a lobster roll and a couple of adult beverages.
