I was in a waiting room recently and picked up one of those dog-eared magazines you always find in such places. It had a section entitled "Whatever became of?", which asked about people who once were everywhere but whom you neither see nor hear of anymore.

It got me to thinking of some notables who did indeed seem to have dropped off the face of the earth.

So I'm going to ask "Whatever became of?" and see if anybody here has seen these people or heard of them lately. Feel free to add your own missing persons to the file.

Sheen Easton- She used to be really hot, in more ways than one, and then just vanished

Kathleen Turner- A big screen presence who isn't seen that much of late.

Paul Williams- Pint-sized singer of whom I was never very fond, but again, gone into thin air.

Cher- Last time I saw her she was peddling something on an infomercial. Did she go into hiding from shame?

Blondie- Hot. blonde singer who is no more

Andy Williams- Is he still among the living?

McCauley Caulkin- Red-hot child star that seems to have failed to make the transition.

Loni Anderson- fter her messy divorce from Burt Reynolds, she seem to have gone up in a puff of smoke.

Paula Abdul- Singer, dancer, choreographer, gone to Lord knows where.

Judy and Audrey Landers- two of the hootest looking babes around have been missing for quite some time.

These are just a few that came to mind, there are sure to be others that are gone but not forgotten. Has anybody seen these people?

Debbie Harry has been in the UK fairly recently. Had a minor hit. She is now rather more mature in appearance

Yeah and it's not just entertainers who disaapear overnight. Whatever became of Ross Perot? That annoying little runt took two runs at the presidency and then fell down an abandoned well in Texas. You don't even hear so much anymore from Donald Trump. Whatever became of the next generation of Kennedys. I think they're going to be like the Roosevelts, apparently everyone expected the progeny of F.D.R. or Teddy to make a splash in politics, but nothing ever came of it. I suspect the Kennedys are now a spent force as well. Same goes for the Rockefellers, after Nelson died so did the dynasty.

I would've asked about Mikhail Gorbachev but I know what he's doing these days. I've done some business with his group and, quite frankly, they disturb me! That's one man I now wish had disappeared.

She is trying to get back in the music scene I saw her play on some late night show not too long ago.

Do you remember when Madonna first became a name, there were three big "girl" singers. Madonna, Debbie Gibson, and Tiffany. Well Madonna is still around, Deborah Gibson is making a splash on Broadway, but whatever happened to Tiffany?

Plus Mollly Ringwald, she had young girls copying everything she did. Where is she, isn't she rather young to be a has-been?

minor rant

Speaking of Madonna reminds me of something I don't understand. The rumour going round is that she's going to appear in a remake of the Italian film "Swept Away" directed by her husband.

Now that film being foreign didn't get much play so most people wouldn't care, but those of us who are familiar with it would be appalled at the idea of Madonna in the lead role.

The movie was directed by Lina Wertmuller and was about an heiress, Rafaellla, who ends up stranded on a deserted island accompanied only by her servant, Gennarino. Her servant is an avowed Communist and after being ordered about by the haughty bitch finally has had enough and turns the tables on her by making her his sex slave.

The actress in the original was Mariangela Melato and she was a young, hot, blonde babe. This was essential for some of the racier scenes to work. The idea of Madonna playing the role rankles into abhorrence. Nobody wants to see her beg to be sodomized by her manservant. UGH!

Why does Hollywood insist on doing that, remaking old films? When Ted Turner colourized some old black and whites , he was accused of cultural vandalism. Hollywood claimed he was desecrating cinematic treasures. If they were so sacrosanct, why do they do remakes? You don't see anybody saying that the "Mona Lisa" should be repainted to give it a more modern look, do you? So If the classic films are truly classic, why not leave them alone. I fully expect any day to hear someone announce that they're reshooting "Gone With the Wind" to update it. More SFX better CGI battle scenes, a more realistic burning of Atlanta.

It looks familiar

Myst, was that something from the Rocky Horror Picture Show?

It's all about selling candy bars. They see this project that had a "name," and a "name" performer wants to do it, so they'll crank out 2,500 prints and play it for two weeks and even if the reviews totally suck everyone will rent it and they'll make a bundle. As opposed to developing a new idea or new talent, which is terribly risky. That's one of the many reasons why movies suck totally these days. They start with the marketing and work backwards to the script.

Mensa- didn't you hear?

It's in pre-production right now. Gonna be a made for television film - cut from 4 hours down to 1 hr 45 minutes. Casting has begun in earnest. I hear Miles is a shoo-in for the Rhett Butler part.

They're using CGI for all the other parts and adding tons of footage for special effects. Burning of Atlanta will be filmed in Atlanta by permission of Ted Turner as retribution for the licking he took on the colorization of films!

Too true

You know, shadowsource, they used to have a completed script before they shot frame one. These days they write the script the night before they shoot it, and it shows! They just don't care anymore and sometimes I wonder whether or not we should either.

I'll answer one of them...

Sheena Easton - never been the same since Prince fucked her...

(She sure did have the look!)

Her face was jammin'
Her body's heck-a-slammin'
If love is good, let's get 2 rammin'
U got the look, U got the look

Are you sure?

Yeah, I know, that's why I always liked his videos! And he knew what to do with them, too.

Yes he has - Appollonia, Sheila E, Sheen Easton, Carmen Electra, Vanessa Marcil and his wife Mayte - all beautiful women. (Which, frankly, I don't understand cause he is a smarmy little thing. Not attractive at all - physically. Maybe it's the poet's soul. Or power)

Sorry, Mensa. No more joking. But really- would it surprise you if they make a movie out of the satire/parody called The Wind Done Gone?

I agree with you as well - it is sacrilegious how they have no original thoughts. It is far easier to recycle old plots than to take the time to be creative. That's your answer. Money. Why pay out big bucks to a screenwriter if you already own the rights to an old movie that you can update with new stars?

Sheena Easton designs Angel dolls, I saw an ad for them in a collectibles magazine.

Cher was on "Will & Grace" last season when they premiered the Cher doll from Mattel.

Ross Perot is still annoying people here in Texas, I met him once & he is a major ass.

At one point Prince was married, I think they had a baby who died shortly after birth.

I still love Debbie Harry, I saw her on something on VH1 awhile back & she looked pretty good, she had lost some weight. She can still sing, though.

Enough of the gossip updates, I think I need to get out of the house more often.

The South will rise again!

I think if they do that, and nothing would surprise me, then the brouhaha over the book would likely pale in comparison to the outrage from GWTW fans.

Is Britney getting ready?
